English Release: Seven Seas is releasing this series in English as Too Many Losing Heroines!.
It's the start of a new school year this volume as we're introduced to 1st-year Shiratama. It's been a while since we've had the introduction of a proper losing heroine and Shiratama's a good one. I initially felt like she was a very toned down version of Ami from Toradora but that comparison felt like it became less true as the volume went on, though she does have a bit of a two-faced personality. So, Shiratama's deal is that she's in love with her big sister's fiancee, who is also a teacher. A plan is hatched for her to get a wedding photo with her crush on the wedding day before her sister can as she's convinced she'll be able to give up on him if she does so.
This volume has a lot of good stuff in it. It gives Anna something to do other than eat as she empathises with Shiratama's situation. The plan that they come up with is super fun as the student council, Asagumo, and Kaju get involved. There's even cross-dressing! This would have been my favourite volume of the series if not for one super annoying aspect: part of the plan involves Anna losing weight and Shiratama gaining it in the span of a week. And I'm just so sick of hearing about how much Anna eats and how she's chubby. I'm not sure if it would make it better if Anna was actually drawn chubbier than the other girls. It's just not pleasant to constantly read about especially when, aside from having a larger bust, she's drawn to have the same body type as everyone else in this series. Again, really hoping the anime tones this down as I would love to see this volume adapted. Aside from that issue, this volume really was a lot of fun.
The next volume is actually a short story volume but I'm going to skip it. It just collects stories that were published elsewhere and some of them I've already read through bookwalker so it just doesn't seem worth it. I already bought volume 8 so I'll be reading that soon.
