UNPOPULAR OPINION: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER RANT

WARNING: SPOILERS

THIS POST HAS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE HIMYM SERIES FINALE! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I understand the risk I am taking in writing my thoughts down in a public setting and that I will more than likely lose a bunch of followers for this. But I really don't care.

I am by no means saying that you have to agree with any or all of my ideas. But I hope that you will read this and that it might open your mind to new ideas or a different point of view. If I swayed you in at least one way, great. If not, also great. Please continue on with your day.

Most of the posts I am seeing are negative and quick to judge. PLEASE DO US ALL A FAVOR AND ACCURATELY EVALUATE THE SHOW BEFORE YOU JUMP TO SLOPPY CONCLUSIONS.

If you have really paid attention throughout the entire series, you will know and understand that this was the perfect ending. 

First, if you watched season 9 carefully, you would have predicted the outcome for Tracy.

Second, THE MOTHER WAS NOT A CONSOLATION PRIZE! She was the perfect woman for Ted. However, this show has proven to not always be perfect and ideal but sometimes to accurately show reality. This isn't a fairytale, similar to real life. In real life, one does not always want or end up with the person who is his or her perfect match. However, in Ted's situation, he was able to fall in love and be with the woman who was perfect for him (Tracy) AND the woman who he has had ups and downs with but has always loved (Robin). Some may believe this is a cheap way out, but many talented and noteworthy people have tastefully written situations like this and made it work (See author Cassandra Clare's triology, The Infernal Devices: Clockwork Princess). Although it is not common in today's society (as far as I am concerned), it IS possible to be truly in love with more than one person.

Thirdly, for the people who believe Barney and Robin should have ended up together- it was impractical. Yes, it was a cute idea in theory, but how many of you reading this would honestly be perfectly satisfied with marrying and spending the rest of your life with someone who is so accustomed to lying and tricking women into sleeping with him? If you see no problem with this, then I highly distrust your judgment.  

On the other hand, I understand why people are upset about the entire ninth season being based around a wedding that essentially leads nowhere. I believe the point of this was to reaffirm the relationship between Ted and Robin and to also at the same time slightly guide viewers away from the idea of any future between them. It is, in fact, a show that wants to surprise people. Barney and Robin's marriage was not a complete waste, however. In the finale, Barney says that if he cannot make it work with Robin, then there is no way it can work with anyone else. Barney did develop while with Robin. Remember that their marriage did not end because he lied or cheated: It ended because they are both career-driven people who put their independence before their significant other.

Some people are also saying that Barney and Robin should have been sad about their "failed marriage". First, this was not necessary a "failed marriage". Barney said so himself. Watch the episode again. Second, they did not tell the rest of the group about the divorce immediately, so they may have had time to cope. Thirdly, refer back to the reason of their divorce. Although most do, not ALL divorces end badly. And lastly, a divorce where they ended on bad terms would have resulted in the group never being together again for ANY special occasions. Let's not forget that this is a show, where the group being together is one of the symbols.

Some people are also upset that the writers ended a "huge relationship". Let's not forget that Ted has had plenty of "huge relationships" (Stella, Victoria, etc.) and they all ended. Is Ted still friends with those women? Does he even keep in contact with them? Some relationships have to end.

I can go on forever, but you don't want to read that. So I will come to my closing points.

To the people who are upset with Ted still wanting to be with Robin at the end, would you rather him be alone for the rest of his life? Although the series is over for us viewers, life goes on for Ted. Being the romantic he is, why would anyone wish him to be alone just because the love of his life died? Many people remarrying after a significant other's death and find love AGAIN. It does not mean he or she loves that person any less than when they were married. Furthermore, Ted was only with his wife for a few short years compared to the length of his lifetime. It would be cruel fate for a man who believes so hard in destiny to be extremely happy for a short period of time after waiting years to find the love of his life, just to be miserable for the rest of his life after she died. Ted does not deserve that. No one deserves that.

Ted got the approval from his children to go after Robin. There is no need to go over this in great detail. If you want more information, message me.

The fact that the very last scene of this show was similar to a scene in the very first episode of this show brought the entire series full circle. There was a reason Robin was introduced the way she was in the first season. No, it was not to throw us off and make us believe she was the mother, as we did of many other women throughout the series. It was to show us that she has been and always will be a very important person in Ted's life. We all should have seen this ending coming, and I think if we rewatch the entire nine seasons, we will find exactly what the writers meant for the fate of the show.
