hanging out with liz @clearwindowpanemoon & evan @immanentyouth at liz's place which doesn't have a window screen yet, and this GIANT CICADA flies through the window and buzzes around the room (straight into evan's face at one point) before zooming into the light fixture and getting caught in the bowl we were considering just letting it die of natural causes but it could've gotten out if it was really determined, so i discovered how to turn off the ceiling fan (the cord had gotten trapped inside the bowl), we turned it off, and evan got a spray bottle of bleach which i sprayed in there. obviously the cicada died, eventually, and we drained the bleach. i unscrewed the bowl and took it down to toss the cicada, and. it wasnot a cicada. it was a two-inch wasp. easily the biggest wasp i've ever seen. holy shit. uh!! so we all freaked out obviously! and i flushed it down the toilet and washed everything thoroughly and we all survived

The actual founding fathers, or the musical characters? We talked about this the other night and I think most, if not all, of them were Slytherins

kind of a mix.  i find it a lot harder to place actual people than fictional characters (or fanfic type versions of real people like the characters in hamilton) because i think it’s hard to understand a person you know irl well enough to do that, let alone someone you can only read about who lived hundreds of years ago.

This is one of my favorite Alex moments, in part because it’s 100% me

yeah that entire scene is one of my favorites in the show.  i’m actually right around that point in history in the book and i appreciate hamilton in it so much.  the constitution wasn’t what he wanted, he didn’t think it was perfect, but as soon as it was decided upon he became one of it’s strongest supporters.  i have a lot of appreciation for that.

ditto.  it’s making me incredibly nostalgic.  also making me want to go track down the copy of it that i printed out and put in a binder.  i’m sure it’s tucked away in my attic somewhere.

Except the lyrics are about Theodosia and Hamilton and his grandfather and his mother??? Those verses don’t mean anything outside of the context of the show…

yeah they do.  the stuff about theodosia and his family are generic enough that they could be in any song.  the stuff about hamilton is the only stuff i don’t think makes sense outside of context.  

like obviously it’s not completely standalone.  songs from musicals pretty much never are.  but it is more than most of the songs in the show.  and beyond that, the /music/ stands out.
