Week 1・Japanese Immersion Log
This is my first post on Tumblr in a while, with more to come I hope! Let's start with the fact that "Week 1" is sort of a lie, but I haven't been consistent until recently with my immersion to even consider blogging about it. A lot of what I'll be writing is for myself to look back on so I don't continue to feel I'm making no progress. That's NOT to say I'll be getting deep in the weeds of documenting every little thing. Just a few tangible statistics w/ a sprinkle of commentary about how I'm feeling.
Sentai Daishikkaku ⭐
・5 Episodes of Freeflow, I'm able to follow the plot well enough. Kind of a struggle in terms of making out words.
Chojin Sentai Jetman ⭐
・10 Episodes of Freeflow, another struggle but enjoying my time spent with it alongside a friend who's really into the series!
Takagi-san ⭐⭐
・2 Episodes of Active immersion consisting of me reading as I go along, skipping over any dialogue that has too many unknown words. This feels like a good use of my time and I plan on finishing
General YouTube Content
・Low Attention pretty much across the board here. This is an area that could use improvement from me, I have a habit of turning something on just out of my level and listening to it while doing things around the house or at the gym. I know a better method would be to listen to content I've already seen, but at this time I don't have much content to go off of and rely heavily on Migaku's "Late Beginner" playlist.
This next week I want to add more focus to reading w/ audio. There's quite a few shows on my MAL that appear to have a 60% comprehension score. I think those will be a good place to start considering I have access to the subtitles and Migaku. Additionally, 15 or so minutes a day of CIJapanese on Youtube sounds reasonable.
Reevaluating how many NEW cards I'm studying in Migaku might also be the play. This past week has been a struggle, edging 150 reviews on the daily which takes valuable time away from immersion content. Especially now that I'm hitting 60% comprehension scores. For the longest my goal has been to achieve 1,500 words and I'm ALMOST THERE! This was a really nice goal to have, going forward I'd like to keep immersion at the forefront of importance. I have no intention of dropping SRS, rather I'd like to aim for 30 minutes of study and bulk immerse. At the present I spend about an hour a day on SRS...
