The men on our team work with pride and they sweat and they tire themselves everyday to earn their living. They came from many places because some of them were escaping war or joblessness or simply had a hope for what they could do or be here. That makes them Americans. Every. Single. Day. This is our home. We are sojourners in exile. Long before I was born my family left NYC behind to make a new life and I returned there for the same reason, because I needed a place of opportunity to provide for our family and I’m not a native. Looking back my memories and stories from childhood are full of the sights and sounds and smell of this city and probably buried beneath all of that was a belief that it was a place of opportunity and discovery and a catalyst for growth and change.
