Unseen Exhibition due to COVID cancellation Here’s a few pictures of my ongoing exhibition which opened in the most of the COVID social distancing. Immigrant Denied: Border Elegy Hope&Loss opened March 11, 2020 at Marsh Gallery at Herron School of Art and Design The shadows behind the work is metaphoric message of unseen and forgotten souls inside ICE detention centers nationwide. This exhibition matters now more than ever as many asylum seekers are at the most risk of contacting COVID while the evils of ICE agents continue to recklessly Hunt people down placing them in overcrowded cages. Immigrant Denied exhibit will be videotaped by PBS WFYI as a visual tour. During the last few weeks I have been working on a collaboration with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, the Arts council of Indianapolis and indyParks to beautify picnic tables filled with messages of migration as a natural human need, while comparing the significance of the monarch butterflies as Latin American symbol of migration. My proposal is based on two separate by connected works of art, beginning with the mural of the picnic tables at Christian park and an indoor sculpture which embodies the Latin American migration with the monarchs. I will be installing this piece tomorrow at Christian park. I am loving this piece “ We Are All Immigrants” so very much. It will be i exhibited until January 2020:). Did you know that 50% of refugees are under the age of 18 and that more than 2,000 have been separated from their families since April? Let us come from a place of understanding, self-reflection, and activism. It is imperative that we as teachers rise up. We need to call our representatives and demand immigration reform. Use the apps @5calls or @resistbot to make it super simple for you. What is happening is just not right, regardless of your political stance. If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. You can celebrate World Refugee Day today by donating to incredible organizations such as @raicestexas, a nonprofit in Texas that is paying the bond for parents currently being held in detention centers and providing legal services for them. There’s also the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, which champions the rights of unaccompanied immigrant children and ActBlue, which divides your donation evenly between 14 organizations (including the ACLU and some of the organizations listed above) working to protect migrant children from being separated from their families at the border.
