A 79-year-old U.S. citizen has filed a $50 million civil rights claim after being arrested and injured during an immigration raid at his business in Van Nuys.
VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A car wash owner in Van Nuys has filed a $50 million civil rights claim after being arrested and injured during an immigration raid at his business.
Surveillance video shows federal agents body slamming 79-year-old U.S. citizen Rafie Shouhed to the ground just outside of his car wash two weeks ago.
Shouhed says the agents stormed into his business and roughed him up after he attempted to ask what they needed. Video from inside the business shows an agent pushing him down.
He says that after he made it outside, the agents pummeled him again.
The word "evil" is often overused in our culture to describe people with whom we disagree. But I can find no other word to describe ICE agents seizing a day care teacher in front of young children. At an age when teachers are beloved, they will be traumatized by this - and lose trust in adults. Evil

Immigration Raids In Nebraska, Minnesota Target Businesses
"I'm not aware of a bigger one." Homeland Security Investigations special agent in charge Tracy Cormier.
An immigration raid including three states and centered in Nebraska Wednesday is expected to be one of the largest in Homeland Security Investigations 15-year history. Fourteen business owners and managers and more than 130 workers arrested. Read more: http://bit.ly/2vOSzS9
Ten undocumented immigrants were rounded up Tuesday in what immigrant advocates say is the first major farm labor camp raid in Michigan since President Trump took office.
The ten workers were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcment officials Tuesday night at their labor camp near Hart, roughly 40 miles north of Muskegon.
The nine male farm workers are currently in ICE custody in Youngstown, Ohio. The lone female farm worker arrested in is Calhoun County, Michigan. It's unclear whether the workers will be deported.
Susan Reed, managing attorney with the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, says the farm workers contribute a great deal to Michigan.
“The farm worker community gives so much socially, culturally and economically to our West Michigan communities that to see ten people taken from their homes late at night after working a hard blueberry system is just very painful,” Reed said.
