Sometimes, Jason is more wolf than man. Everyone at CampJupiter has been with the wolves, but none as young and for as long as Jason
And what reason does he have to love the gods? He has had tomake his way through life by himself, why should he care about them?
Ever since he was a small child, learning the ways of thelegion, sometimes his eyes would slant just so, intimidating even the toughestof soldiers, the air crackling just enough to be noticeable but not enough tobe linked to him
He learned how to make people’s hair stand on end, to makethe shadow of lightning flicker across his eyes, but shied away from the fearin their eyes for years, terrified of what he could do
It gets too much for him sometimes, the pressure and theexpectations, and he will disappear for days on end. He always returns though,silent but dangerous
One by one, people he knew and trusted start dying, fallingprey to the monsters his father can’t be bothered to stop, that he couldn’t kill in time to save them. He vows to avenge them however he can someday
Occasionally, when he can take no more, his teeth seem alittle too sharp, his fingers seem to spark with energy, and the air around himsmells like burning. He no longer holds back in fights
People drift away from him, leave him alone with the ghostsof people he cared about, spreading rumours of the perfect son gone rogue, oflightning storms in the distance and terrifying run-ins at night
They don’t call him Jason anymore, he is only ‘Son ofJupiter’, and drifting further away, staying away for longer, coming back morelike the wolves Rome was known for
When he finds monsters, they stand no chance. His blade isinfused with lightning by his anger, his voice a menacing growl. All that isleft of them are char marks on the ground
He goes for good one night, a ghost of a person, chased by the memories of those he could not save, leaving behind him only hushedwhispers
The next morning, there’s a lightning-charred wolf tooth onthe steps of Olympus.
