I managed to show my true colours spectactularly after we arrived in Medellin. I put a potato in the microwave, the oven and then a pan and it managed to remain uncooked. My rage was out of control in front of ‘new’ people and then I managed to set the tea towel on fire. After we had finally eaten I apologised to those in the kitchen and a few of us decided to have a drink. Aguardiente is the local Colombian spirit, I was so impressed with the stuff that I had fallen in the fish pond by 10pm..no i’m not kidding! Not one to be put off easily we heading out into town. Easily our best night so far, we met some great locals, drank more Aguardiente and danced salsa until 5am. I was in my element and refused to go home. Luckily Laura knows how to deal with me and despite my protests that ‘going home would ruin everything’ she put me over her shoulder and literally fireman lifted me out of the place. I have to say i’m pretty sad to be leaving and really glad we came here. Colombia has smashed my preconceptions to pieces. In the 90’s Medellin was the world’s cocaine capital and most dangerous city and so Colombia has a reputation that needs putting to bed. It is a stunning country made better only by the people that live here. We met the loveliest locals i’ve maybe ever come across and they were friendly, helpful and made us feel safe. They also know how to party hard..it was always going to be a winner!
