Regarding your post about your friend, I’m in a somewhat similar situation except I’m on the other side of it (I’m the one who goes off for ages and comes back intermittently for visits). I don’t doubt that your friend does mean what they say because I feel the same about my friends who I come home to visit, but I also feel incredibly grateful that they’re still there when I get back, always happy to accommodate me, and I’m sure your friend must feel a similar way. Maybe I’m projecting, but thought I’d share another perspective

I struggle a lot with trust and friendships in general, so this is a mental block I have to learn to work through. It's slow going.
