Follower Spotlight: impalathieves

As part of destielfanfic’s anniversary celebration, here is a follower spotlight by impalathieves (now impalathief)!

About: I started watching Supernatural in July of 2012 because I was sick of being confused by all the Supernatural posts on my dash (you have no idea how confused I was by meta!Misha in posts), to the point of being just ridiculous. There’s a lot of overlap of fans liking Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Supernatural, and since I had been a fan of the two former since the summer of 2011, I was beyond befuddled. So finally I sat down with Netflix for two weeks straight and watched seasons 1-6, with season 7 following slowly afterwards. And thus, I became one with the fandom. As for Destiel, like I said before, I had been exposed to quite a bit of the Supernatural fandom, so Destiel was no stranger to me. I didn’t understand why Dean and Cas were shipped together at that point (I mean, I still was mixing up Dean and Sam), but once I started the show and eventually reached season 4, it was blatantly obvious to me. For me, the pairing just makes sense. Castiel raised Dean from Hell, and not only that, left his handprint and forged a profound bond. That plus all the staring and lack of personal space, what was I supposed to ship?

Destiel Fanfic Highlights: The Law of Conservation of Energy [T, 90,000 word count]

The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed from one state into another. And what is grace, if not energy? In order to win the war in Heaven, Castiel and the Winchesters embark on a cross-country quest to find the scattered shards of Gabriel’s grace in the hopes that its remaining power will be enough to defeat Raphael.

The Law of Conservation of Energy by peroxide_fic: This is one of the first Supernatural fics I ever read, and it’s still one of my favorites. What first caught my eye was the scientific title, as my real-world passion is chemistry, but the fic expanded beyond that and unfurled to reveal this fascinating plot with enough angst and happy moments to make it memorable, even a year later. Ghost Dance [light NC-17, 51,000 word count]

In post-apocalyptic isolation, Castiel nurses Dean back to something like his former self, but will a time come when Dean’s recovered —and rediscovered— too much?

Ghost Dance by omphalos: Beyond the very interesting concept of this fic, the descriptions that at once horrified me and engaged me is what makes this story one of my favorites. An Exercise in 'Worthless' [light NC-17, 26,500 word count]

Wherein Dean makes a hefty living as a tattoo artist who owns the space next to Gabriel’s cafe. Sam attends the local university. When Gabe’s cousin comes to live with him while starting grad school at Sam’s university, Dean thinks for sure that all his negative karma’s coming to bite him in the ass because Cas clearly has a thing for Sam. No one would ever choose him over Sam. That’s just logic.

An Exercise In ‘Worthless’ by beastofthesky: This is one of my favorite AU’s of all time. It’s a nice change from the mechanic!Dean characteristic that is so common (but don’t mistake me, it’s still wonderful) and the build of Dean and Cas’s relationship is particularly nice in this one.
