Widened Road
I have been a development worker for 3 years now and I am in the state of wondering why things need to change. I am aware that “change” is the only constant thing in this world but I hope with all my heart that change will always result for the better for everyone in this world.
Widened roads in the area where I currently work in made me sad in a way that I can sense that reality takes place over time in a worst case. Datu(s) from Higaonon community fought for their lives to preserve their culture and made efforts to pass it on to the new generations but we could not deny the fact that the place they live in will also change. Widened roads are signs that infrastructures are to be built in 5 to 10 years from now and people from the city will discover the breath-taking view from the mountains and the cool breeze and will soon take place, destroy the environment and make huge buildings. As to myself I know that I’ll only be working in this place for a year but I certainly know that it will give me a heartbreak that the mountains I’ve climbed, the cool breeze I felt everyday and the rivers I saw will be owned by the people in the city and when storm comes, huge flooding will take place in the lowlands. Can we please prevent the change? Can’t we just leave it as it is? Can we just give peace a chance? Can we please make the earth greener? I beg with all my heart but I know change is stronger than my heartbeat.
