The worried dragon
by me and @seventyfiveapples for our lovely goblin princess @cursedgoblin. We love you bunches!
The dragon was starting to get worried about her small goblin princess.
They hadn't been to the village in weeks. Infact, the princess has preferred solitude. She had taken to hiding under their large pillow horde.
Panda had shoved her snout in the pile to check on the goblin, but she didn't smell sick. After poking, prodding and huffing didn't work l, the dragon realized she needed help.
With one more worried glance, the dragon took off from their mountain side home. Surely their old friend would know what to do. She flew with great speed.
She landed in front of her friends home, rushing to knock on the door with her claws. It didn't take long for the orc to answer her door, but the dragon was already stamping her feet with impatience.
Apples was a bit shocked to see Panda standing there all alone, but she wasn't given much time to ponder in the matter.
“What's goin-uufff!” She was cut off as she was unceremoniously ploppled onto the dragons back, given only a moment before they took off back into the sky, towards the mountain.
Panda landed with as much grace as she could manage, trotting straight to the pillow pile before letting orc slide off.
“what's going on?” the orc asked more than a little confused. Panda only huffed and pushed her into the pile. Getting the hint she started moving pillows out of her way to get to the center. She was shocked to find the goblin curled up, a little worse for the wear.
The orc’s heart fell, seeing her friend in such distress. Her friend- this sweet and mischievous goblin who had been there for her at some of her very lowest points. The orc lowered herself to a crouching position, careful to stay a few feet away. She didn’t want to frighten or overwhelm the goblin.
“Hey, there, little one,” she said in a soft voice. “Not feeling up to facing the world today? That’s okay.” With a sigh she shifted to sit on a particularly fluffy pillow nearby. “You don’t have to.”
The dragon watched the orc and goblin with worry and hope. She snorted as she adjusted her front paws and two thin tendrils of smoke puffed out from her snout. The goblin watched the smoke rise and dissolve, glittering in the late afternoon sun as it did.
The little goblin took a deep breath and stood up. She was still eye-level to the seated orc, who watched her with raised eyebrows.
She knew her friends cared about her, but honestly, she didn’t know if she would be okay. At the moment, it was hard to imagine feeling okay again. But her friends didnt press her- they just wanted to be there.
The dragon perked up, sensing a spark of happiness in the goblin. She raised her head and snorted again, straight up into the sky. Two fat clouds billowed out and faded, catching sunbeams that made it look like the goblin was standing in a spotlight.
She took a dramatic stage bow that made the dragon and the orc both laugh. They looked at her with such care: she was moved.
No, the goblin thought, things still weren’t okay. But she knew her friends were there if she needed them, she had a pile of fluffy pillows, and the late afternoon sun was currently stretching into a lovely sunset.
Maybe that would be okay for now.
