I have to be honest, I love budgeting. I love organizing my income and assigning a purpose that brings me closer to my financial goals. Doing the math on how quickly I can save for something or how much extra income I need to pay something off is fun for me. But when it comes …

The thing that is really hard and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself. ~Anna Quindlen
Making friends with imperfectionism. Delphiniums rock. Literally! Mangled they be, contorted by all kinds of windy ravage. But they're still standing, still beautiful. Artist @lela_rohrer_stech makes beautiful things, and talks to me this week on the podcast. I love this quote—not only is it true and wise, it reminds me of how powerful it can be to channel that little kid we once were while we’re creating. That doesn’t mean we only fingerpaint or scribble, or write “See Spot run”—it means we let go of all the things that make adulting so complicated and just let the good stuff inside us flow free. ⠀ .⠀ That “good stuff” doesn’t always seem good, by “adult” standards, but if it’s our truth, and we’re expressing it, then it has value. It’s real, not a facade. In this age of Instagrammable beauty, rebellion looks like showing all of who we are, not just the perfect, pretty stuff (which I’d argue is an illusion anyway). It’s also courageous as hell. When we were kids, it was a lot easier. Need help getting past those voices of perfection and illusion in your head? Listening to @thecreativityhabit interview Murphy Funkhouser Capps while doodling http://thecreativityhabit.com/project/murphy-funkhouser-capps/ 🖍 The suitcase, teddy bear, and railroad tracks are all directly inspired from this amazing podcast episode. (Though the sticker on the suitcase is from our upcoming trip! Squee!) 🖍 If you are looking for amazing, in depth stories from artists of all kinds, HUMAN stories, LIFE stories, you must check out The Creativity Habit™. I was lucky enough to be interviewed by Daphne, and it was a profound experience. Different from any other interview I’ve ever had. Daphne is a true Story Whisperer. Her podcast is a work of art. Go.
