Toby stretched his jaw, yawning some as he woke up more and more. The ending title screen was already fading out, and outside was pitch dark. Man, passing out early wasn’t planned, but it was well needed. He already felt more rested than he had been beforehand.
“Hey, Jimbo? Sorry I fe-”
He paused, looking down at his lanky friend, whom had wrapped his own arms around his right. Jim was possibly even more so in a deeper sleep, ear occasionally twitching even as he was just glued to Toby’s side, tail and wings fluffed up and acting as a blanket.
“Jim. Hey, Jim, buddy. Get up.” The gargoyle nudged his shoulders a little, only making him curl more around. Jim’s cheek smushed, and somehow, when Toby barely brushed his head, he heard a faint rumbling sound.
Oh sweet jesus. Curiosity was more than enough for him to gently pet the top of his head. It slowly became more than a quiet rumble, even coaxing a soft smile from the sleeping sphinx.
It seemed just so surreal. So strange that it almost kind of fit. Of course! Of course, if they had become monsters and Jim just so happened to purr like a little kitten. Of course. Toby could remember showing his grandma’s cat to Jim once, when she was content and calm. It was almost eerie how similar this was.
It was downright adorable though.
“...Tobes?” Jim’s voice was groggy from sleep, yawning widely as Toby’s hand shrank away.
“Yeah, yeah Jim. I’m here.”
“ ‘sorry for sleepin’ through it.”
“No problem, I did too.”
Jim muffled an ‘oh’, before slowly sitting back up, back crackling like a glow stick.
“...though let’s be fair: you were a very comfortable pillow.”
Jim promptly got a throw pillow tossed to the side of his face.
“Oh yeah? Well you’re just a little space heater. Screw blankets in winter, just sit next to you.” Toby joked back, a slight smile forming.
