Just saw a video of a deaf kitty resting their head on a guitar and feeling the vibrations…

So it’s now canon that Privetnose has a stringed instrument that she plucks just to enjoy the vibrations of! I’d say she can even play several songs, but her favorites are very base-heavy since those are the ones she can feel the best!

So… y’all won’t be getting access to OFND’s third arc, Might, for a long while… BUT. I’ve been thinking…

The Four (because there’s four, not three) are each based off of the ideals: See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, Do No Evil

Talking with one of my beloved betas and realized that this is plot relevant enough to take note of:

The fealty doesn’t know what cusses are. The street dwellers do.

Color names aren’t used bc they are taken by the big cats but what would happen if a cat wanted to be named after a color or if a cat from the outside came in with the name Yellow/Green/Special color cat name?

They’d be shot down, and hard. Their name would be changed post-haste.

One example was Moccasinheart, actually! Her original name was “Russet”, and she was very against the idea of taking another name at first. The faction responded with such a sheer hostility and borderline outrage that she and Otterbelly were almost driven away. It was Cedarstep that defended them, and guided them to the historians so that it could be explained to them why a name was so important to a fealty cat, and why colors were so important to a fealty cat on that same note.

Not many orators have such patience, however. If a cat tried to pull such a bold, ignorant stunt like that to any other orator of the time (or even of modern times, sans maybe Magpietail), they would be banished from the lands or even killed, depending on their level of stubbornness.

First impressions matter. A lot.

OFND Languages

[Please note: I am not a linguist. This is just me wanting to expand the world building even further in more interesting ways, as I love learning about languages and want to incorporate them into OFND!]

Languages commonly found within (or around) the fortress valley:

Bay — A verbal language unique to the High Water Howlers

Beakspeak — The common tongue of avians

Canid - The common tongue of canines

Common — A mix between Felid and Ruin Rasp; the primary language of the Fourtrees Fealty’s feline occupants

Felid — The common tongue of felines

Freshwater — A nonverbal signed language unique to the Riverwardens, shared with the High Water Howlers

Gesture — A nonverbal, universal signed language for Deaf cats and cats who are unable to speak. Spoken commonly within the Fenland

Groan-and-Squeak — The common tongue of rodents

(Ruin) Rasp — A spoken language most commonly spoken within ruins; it relies heavily on both body language and verbal inclinations. Every animal is able to speak it, and as such, it is rather simple

Trill — A whistled language unique to the Moorsweepers
