Even on a starship a day cycle was still adhered to, and even the captain had to sleep, whether he wanted to or not. The morning shift was just about to begin, and the night crew was on their way back to their quarters for sleep. Jim awoke to an alarm which he promptly shut off, and though his body protested the sudden movement of getting out of bed, he did so anyway. The day before had been a routine excursion to one of the many planets the Enterprise was sent to explore. There hadn't been any signs of sentient life forms, but the fauna of the planet had the science officers excited, so an away team had been sent. Of course, nothing was ever simple when it came to the Enterprise crew; and while it was true there was no sentient life forms, there was definitely a variety of animal species that wanted to make them their lunch. Suffice it to say, Jim and the other crew members had quickly been beamed back aboard the ship.

He was glad that creepy lizard thing (what did Spock call it again?) hadn't done more damage, or Bones would have had his hide. With all the excitement of yesterday, Jim wasn't sure what to expect with this shift. He was on the bridge within the hour, the rest of his crew already in their places. Trademark smirk in place, the Captain slipped into his chair, and turned towards his navigator.

"Where are we off to Mr. Chekov? How's everything look?"
