Beverly Hills Chihuahua: The Mimicry of Racial Identity
Chloe, filled with the spirit of her Aztec ancestors, shouts out the call of rebellion “No màs!!” and unearths a thunderous woof which takes the dog traffickers by surprise, giving the heroes an advantage and turning the tide of the final confrontation.
With the amount of racial allegories present in the characters, “stay brown!” the underground Chihuahua society draws a clear parallel to the Aztec Natives. In this context, we can recognize the character of Chloe, a “domesticated” Chihuahua, as an analogy for Native American integration into the nuclear family.
The forced integration of Native culture due to manifest destiny, and the growing spite in the iconoclastic followers of old Native traditions, kinda fucks as a subject matter and deserves to be explored more deeply.
It’s a shame Beverly Hills Chihuahua doesn’t approach the concept with an ounce of respect or quality.
