Slowly Lucia makes her way through the radiation storm to reach Goodneighbour. It takes much longer than usual as the green sky hides potential threats, whether it’s falling concrete or a horde of feral ghouls. While Lucia can be reckless, she’s not stupid, and she’s not so far gone where she would walk into her early and violent death.
As she gets closer to the vicinity of Goodneighbour, the constant rads from the storm seem to have taken their toll on her, and she has to pause, taking brief refuge in a Pulowski Preservation shelter. Nearly an hour seems to pass as she recovers, will an ungodly need to pee. Lucia relieves herself in the box with a satisfied sigh and heaves the door open.
Looking into the sky, she noticed that the radiation storm seems to be moving south. There’s still a vaguely green tint to the air but Lucia feels a cool breeze coming from the north-west and she feels invigorated enough to continue. She reaches the gates, the guards having long since gotten used to her frequent visits and not considering her enough of a threat to shake her down.
Once inside the familiar walls, she finds herself relaxing a little easier- Goodneighbour wasn’t perfect, of course not, but it had enough in the way of society that a person could some days walk in and never feel the need to reach for their weapon.
She ambles towards The Third Rail but is distracted by a cat ‘hunting’ a can being pushed around by the breeze. She changes direction and stands in front of the cat outside a garage. The cat stops its game to stare up at Lucia, and moves away as she reaches out her hand as if to stroke it. Watching it walk away flips it off with both hands, waving her hands up and down in a childlike manner. Cats can be such assholes.
The feline saunters into the garage, where a sign saying ‘Rust Rat’ was attached to the building. Lucia follows it inside, and can hear the sound of someone tinkering with probably junk.
“Did you know,” she say to the thin air. “Your cat doesn’t like me.”
The cat turns its head to her with narrowed eyes as if it can understand her every word, and Lucia sticks her tongue out.
