I’ve come to some hard truths in the past few years when I first started my virtual world journey. Specifically on IMVU and this is the journey of badge collecting. Let’s not sugar coat my heavy addiction on something that literally doesn’t give any sort of personal gain other then a pretty graphic made by users to show off to everyone else. My addiction for collecting these probably first occured when I saw someones profile in a room I was in. She was fun to chat with so I asked if I could add her, got the okay, and saw some of the best artwork in her badge collection. We spent hours talking about it shortly after. And that was the beginning that’s when it all started. Let’s be honest this addiction normally starts for each user in one of two various ways.
The first way is obviously meeting someone and seeing some of the best pixel art that you normally only see on DeviantArt.
The second way being you stumble into it through a FAQ or users chatting about it. You then question it and find out that way and go badge hunting.
Whether you’re the first or second one doesn’t really matter. All that does is your hooked and your like me spending your afternoons searching Homepages for graphic art to show off beneath your profile photo and interests in the badge collection are. I honestly love them for the fact that they tie into the personality of your profile so you can customize it a little bit more. The profiles are kinda standard and bland to begin with so this was IMVU’s way of making profiles more about the individual. A way to decorate and show off interests and passions to others.
Let’s be honest my badge count number raises all of the time but recently in my acts of boredm since summer began I went from a casual badge collector an extreme in two days. I’m finally in the thousands. I can definitely admit I have a problem. But I’d rather have this problem then something else so I’m okay with this. As my parents always told me if it’s not harmful or illegal it’s fine. Not going to lie my badge collection currently is pretty lit. You can view my beautiful card below.
This is my first badge card that I’ve ever created for the bottom of my profile. Let me tell you I’m loving it the aesthetic is just -tears a little- so gorgeous! This really is one thing I love about IMVU. Also, when I’m bored this definitely takes care of it because not everyone creates badges. The people who do create them either take requests and make them custom made for you, you can get them through just firends, some are freebies, and then others are given for being loyal to a creators store or whatever a creator is doing that your buying services for. I think what really got me hooked is some are rare or only given out to a few people. Whether its one made by a friend that’s given to a small circle, being a loyal customer of a shop, or doing something in IMVU that get’s you one from IMVU themselves. Like for example, I have two badges one for hitting my 10 years in IMVU, and one for starting as a creator and let’s be honest I never did anything with my creator status. I’m just not as creative with the computer as I am off of it. The creator badge is the one with the square the 6-30-09 is when badge were first released. Those were both given by the creators of the IMVU platform. They’re always on my card no matter what because they’re accomplishments of how long I’ve been a user of the platform and it makes me feel good. A lot of the ones currently on my card and profile are free badges but trust me finding them was like a treasure hunt. These were all found in the past three days.
Making your personality shine through your profile has never been easier with this addition which was release forever ago. I can’t believe I haven’t talked about this feature sooner. When I meet new users and they’re not sure what to do this is one of my suggestions. You literally could hunt for badges for hours and not get bored. Trust me I’ve been able to do it for hours which is why I’m warning you. Also, if you’re a seasoned user and have been on IMVU forever and keep leaving and coming back like I’ve done countless times. Then this is a great way to still keep going back to IMVU, but also cure whatever boredom is pushing you away from the platform.
Overall, badge collecting is so much fun and my addiction just keeps going when it comes to collecting them. If your bored this is sure to cure it and keep you active on the platform and website. There’s a lot you can do you just have to search for it sometimes. I hope you enjoyed this post!
