Some musings on shipbuilding
Because I guess I should start actually using this tumblr for something.
Taking the official codex numbers for dreadnoughts, we can extrapolate that:
Turian shipbuilding capacity is quite good. Even though they took the brunt of the damage in the citadel battle, they still managed to replace all their losses, and then build two more dreads.
Salarian shipbuilding capacity is either focused on modernizing and upgrading current ships, replacing obsolete ships or just not great in general. No Salarian ships were seen in the Battle of Citadel cutscene so we're presuming they lost quite few ships and no dreadnoughts, and in the two years between no new dreadnoughts were constructed.
I could probably say the same about Asari shipbuilding capacity that I said about the Salarians. We know that the Asari fleet was present in the battle of the citadel, and even if was just the Destiny Ascension that was lost, they still haven't fully replaced losses, and are still down a dread.
Vasudan shipbuilding capacity is the best in the galaxy, but heavily inclined towards civilian over military. Their economy didn't stagnate after Capella, though they did shift the focus heavily to the civilian sector rather than military under the final few years of Khonsu’s reign, and only post-contact under Mihos did they re-invest into the military.
Terran shipbuilding capacity is very good, think a rough estimate of one and a half destroyers(super-dreadnought) per year, along with complements of support ships, corvettes, etc. But for lack of a better term, their shipyards are all over the place. Efficient, but the majority of shipyards are highly specialized and tooled to produce only one or two classes of ship per shipyard, so it’ll take quite a while to regear to produce the next-generation fleet.
