It had felt like madness, too, when it happened. It hadn’t been alcohol, just the leftover adrenaline of a mission that had gone to shit twenty different ways; both of them nearly delirious with sleep deprivation, and the world they’d existed in since Scarif once again being packed up into so many crates in a chaotic frenzy. It had seemed inevitable and logical at the time, the only way to keep her chest from bursting and her fingers from shaking.

The base had come under attack less than an hour later, and when she finally had the time to even process what had happened, she was on a pathfinder shuttle to the outer rim, with no way of even finding out where Cassian had gone in the chaos.
