As I’ve stated before, this month’s stream was going to focus a lot on the setting of UNI, in particular it focused on In-Births, the Hollow Night and the Void. A lot of this stuff has already been covered in either my blog posts, the wiki, TV Tropes or the games themselves. But I’ll cover most of the things from the stream just for clarification:

The Hollow Night:
As we know, the Hollow Night is where EXS is at its highest concentration. Not everyone is able to perceive the Night, only a select few can but the conditions for this weren’t really explained. Due to the high amounts of EXS, In-Births are more durable than the average person and are completely invisible within the Hollow Night.
The Hollow Night is also not restricted to just certain areas, it is a worldwide phenomenon that can happen anywhere at any time, not just on a full moon.
The Void:
In the segment, Kamone mostly went over the basics of FLS, the very thing that Voids need to function. However, he revealed something that happens to be rather interesting. First of all, not all Voids feed on EXS via consumption of flesh, there exist Voids that are capable of feeding on human emotions and even knowledge. Despite that, all Voids need EXS to survive. Without it, they wouldn’t be able to maintain their existence.
EXS and In-Births:
While I have covered how EXS works and how In-Births are born before (See here), I’ll quickly recap.
When a Void bites a human, they rob them of some of their innate EXS and whatever is missing is replaced by the energy of a Void. If a person is able to survive this melding, then they become an In-Birth. The amount of Void energy taken in also depends on the size of the bite wound, as seen with Enkidu, who doesn’t have full access to his EXS powers due to the small size of the bite.
An In-Birth’s unique EXS ability is made when the energy of a Void is melded with a person’s innermost desire or personality trait. It’s very akin to a lottery in that you can’t think of a personality trait and have an ability based on that specific trait alone when you get bitten, it’s decided on whatever trait you’ve had for most of your life.
All in all, it was a pretty unique stream. I would really like it if French Bread continued on with more streams similar to this one and focused more on the lore with updates and tournaments in between all of it. I’m actually considering sending off a letter for their fanmail reading if they do one next month, but, unfortunately, I don’t speak moonrunes.
