A lot of inarazoë fics make me sad because I like Wash too much and they usually take the very understandable post-Serenity (2005) route. So, concept: zoëwashinara. Throw some malwash in there for good measure to really emphasise the bisexuality. And then malsimon and kaynara and you've more or less got the whole crew in a polycule but you get the point. Do we think Wash and Inara would date too or would it be Zoë as the point of connection and Wash and Inara would be friends and/or queerplatonic?

someone maybe last week??? (rip sorry drowning in the semester a little) asked my headcanons for inara zoe in honor shipweek and i don’t remember who it was but: either tumblr ate the ask or i accidentally deleted it, sorry!!! but please feel free to come forward if deaired so i can tag you! aa remembered this was (i think) @stonedtheology so shoutout!

anyway, headcanons:

inara and zoe both have ways of concealing/editing/saying things in a particular way in communication, although zoe’s comes across much more stoic while inara is kind of much more, elusive? (like, i imagine if someone ever asks her a question she doesn’t want to answer, she can very gracefully turn it back around to them very subtly so they somehow don’t notice that she never answered. ironically, i think this means that if they were so inclined, they could tell what each other’s thinking even though it’s unsaid pretty easily - and i like all the knowing looks in their expressions while talking to each other in trash.

this is based on something @wateronagreasefire said a while ago that i really liked, but i think zoe would be good for inara in a lot of ways when it comes to her being so scared to like, connect with anyone on the ship in large part due to her illness. zoe’s mindset of “i ain’t so afraid of losing something that i ain’t gonna try to have it” would be helpful for inara to not feel like she has to like,, isolate or pull away from people, and zoe specifically, in order to protect them.

zoe seems to have a very basic respect for inara’s work - i guess she needs that stuff, living the life she leads.” i definitely think some conversations and boundaries might need to happen, but i Don’t think inara would stop being a companion — and i don’t think zoe would want her to

sometimes when zoe gets a pain flare up from an old injury, inara is able to help her a lot with massage training she’s gotten as a companion. zoe is also good about (in a very blunt, direct, compassionate way) getting inara to admit when she’s in pain andneeds to be taken care of when she’s so used to doing that for others

Serenity has a ghost. His laughter seemed to echo around the ship; in the cockpit, near the plastic dinosaurs. He loomed, wrapped himself around Zoë.
