Day 12: What style of dance does each character prefer? 

Ariadne: has mostly reinvented herself by moving to Paris, but her guilty pleasure is line dance.

Yusuf: Will only dance if he has to, which turns out to be "a lot" and "extremely well" due to having attended a lot of South Asian family weddings. Insists he's awkward and terrible at it, but is actually better than 80% of this list.

Mal: took ballet lessons as a child and can still hold a mean turnout. She wanted Philippa to take ballet too.

Saito: his wife dragged him to ballroom classes after seeing the movie Shall We Dance?. He remembers every step and executes them with clinical precision.

Robert Fischer: see Saito above, but substitute with "his mother" "college girlfriend" (edit: the years didn't match up, I forgot he has a canonical date of birth) and "Strictly Ballroom". They have a surprising amount in common, which they'll never know.

Eames: as a forger, part of his job involves knowing where and what his body parts are doing at any given time, which lends itself extremely well to dancing. It comes up surprisingly often professionally in dreamscapes - ballroom, latin, belly, square, lap. He tries to forget the job that involved can-can. Up top, it's mostly in clubs to feel alive or get laid.

Cobb: took lessons for his wedding, and learned the waltz through sheer determination, force of will, and love for his wife. Otherwise, cannot count a rhythm or move his feet gracefully to save his life.

Arthur: attended lessons with Cobb partially due to being in the wedding party and partially for moral support. In the time it took for Cobb to learn the waltz, he also learned the tango, foxtrot, rumba; the instructor said he had competition potential. He declined before Mal could start trying to find him a dance partner. Misses it nowadays due to being extremely touch-starved.

Day 12 of Inception 30 Day Challenge

12. What style of dance does each character prefer? 

Ariadne is a metalhead. She likes headbanging and is one those tiny fierce women in moshpits that you worry about because they are completely fearless and are in the thick of it with people twice their size.

Arthur and Mal like ballroom dances. They are an unstoppable force. Dom tried to keep up with them but he’s only allowed to cut in every once in a while because Mal loves him.

Saito can do practically any dance that has ever been danced at a formal event. He’s really good at leading and making even inexperienced partners have fun and feel good about themselves.

Eames is not much of a dancer. He’s perfectly capable in dreams but he’s a little stiff irl. He likes dancing with Arthur and getting a little handsy but it’s not something he’d go out of his way to do otherwise.

Yusuf does swing and is insanely good at it. It’s his hidden talent. For someone who’s not usually high energy he really lets loose when he’s dancing.

Robert is one of those stressed out businessmen who go crazy to techno. When he goes out on a Friday Night, he doesn’t come home until noon the next day.

30 Days of Inception - Day Two: Headcanon about Favorite Character @inception30daychallenge

For his entire life, Arthur has never been able to sleep through the night. Ever since he was a kid, he’d relentlessly toss and turn, back and forth, kept awake by the ramblings in his head and always woken up by the nightmares that followed. After joining up with Cobb and dreamsharing so often that he stopped dreaming, he hoped the problem would be solved, but to no avail. Eventually, he gets used to this aspect of his life. The exhaustion becomes background noise, the slight buzz in his head becomes second nature. He learns to work with the lack of sleep, and, in his very Arthur way, take advantage of it. After all, it’s quiet at three in the morning, and therefore the best time to get ahead on some work. The team’s always impressed with how it seems like somehow, this guy has more hours in the day than everybody else, and that’s because he kind of does. Sure, he’ll probably die a few years earlier, and maybe he’s forgotten what it feels like to be rested, but hell, his job is sleeping. It’s not like he needs any more of it, right?

Then, once they’ve stopped acting like fools, Eames and Arthur shack up. There are obvious perks to this relationship, namely that neither of them are going insane anymore, but there’s an unexpected benefit of Eames’ newfound constant presence in Arthur’s life. See, it doesn’t really make sense. Eames is anything but a pleasant sleeping partner. He’s first of all big, full of muscle, and takes up far more space than anyone reasonably should. He’s not shy about that, either. He will flail out all over the bed, moving pillows wherever he wants, kicking blankets off of the bed, Mr. Eames will do anything to get comfortable. He also snores louder than anyone Arthur has met in his life, so loud he’s certain it seeps through the walls and disturbs the neighbors. All of this, and yet the first time Arthur sleeps next to Eames, he sleeps through the night. At first he thinks it’s a fluke, but then it keeps happening. Somehow, he consistently wakes up…rested? It’s so foreign to him to feel properly groggy from sleep rather than a lack of it, and it quite honestly takes some getting used to. It even bugs him at first. Eames is already a fantastic distraction, and now he’s stolen Arthur’s extra work time, too. But eventually, Arthur realizes that it is much easier to work and function when you’re getting eight hours. He starts performing better at work, getting tasks done more efficiently, and, much to the glee of the team, tends to be in a better mood these days.

The team is so pleased with this outcome that eventually, they buy Eames a cake and thank him for finally erasing the bags from under their point man’s eyes.

Inception headcanons

My Arthur is shaping up to be a real community-oriented greenie and I am LIVING for it. There is nothing stopping me.

I just keep picturing him angrily eating his salad and in my heart I know he’s a vegetarian who feels guilty about the amount of private air travel they get up to.

Now that I’ve put him in a career that doesn’t need him to travel so much, he has decided that he wants to keep a community garden, drives a smart-car, will fix anything before buying a replacement, is passionate about recycling, and gets upset when he can’t avoid single-use plastics.

This is something that Eames, who loves comfort and luxury (and is a firm believer in treat-yo-self and your workplace crush), will have to get used to.

A post-canon headcanon. 

One day on a job, the PASIV dumps Ariadne into a dream as a guy. Once he gets over his surprise, he realizes that everything feels so much better and his subconscious knew all along.

He continues doing dream heists long enough to pay off his transition, then quits and has a long, happy, healthy life as an award-winning building architect whose PASIV usage is entirely recreational. He still keeps in touch though.

Arthur speaks foreign languages exactly as he's been taught (courtesy of Uncle Sam). He remembers his conjugations and has studied all of the relevant vocabulary. At best, he sounds like American-accented text to speech. At worst, he's picked up a few odd artifacts from his textbooks - in some languages he's excessively formal, in others he sounds somewhat effeminate, in others his vocabulary is 50 years out of date. It's enough to manage a job with just a few odd looks.

Eames has learned all his foreign languages from pubs and hostels and the occasional bedfellow. His accent is fantastic but extremely local to wherever he picked up the language, which makes people laugh when he goes elsewhere. He regularly forgets vocab and has to resort to mime (thank god he can act). He does however know every single swearword. He gets by well enough to travel under the radar.

At some point over the years they’ve spent doing jobs together, Arthur started filling in the blanks for Eames - cutting off his "um"s and "you know, that thing"s with the correct words, finishing his sentences properly. They work together well like that - Eames builds fluent rapport with their target while Arthur focuses on getting the specifics of what they need.

Their team members finally realize something is up when they start doing it in English.

Is ‘Eames’ his real name?

I had a particularly depressing Eames backstory written that'll probably never see the light of day otherwise, so here it goes:

Eames' dad left the picture when he was young. He kept his dad's surname Eames, while his mom reverted to using her maiden name. They weren't very well-off and his mom worked as a nanny for a rich couple, looking after their son. She ended up having an affair with the father and getting pregnant, so he left his wife for her.

Eames now has a younger brother and a half-brother who are both sons of his asshole step-father. Eames and his mom move in and his mom takes his step-father's surname.

So in effect: he's called Eames because he is the only Eames in his own family.

And then his step-father pays for his education to a very expensive school where he's always felt like the out of place poor kid, and joins the military in part to get away from him, which lead him to the dreamshare experiments etc. etc.

Day 23 of Inception 30 Day Challenge

23. Is ‘Eames’ his real name?

To me every headcanon about Eames’ name is so valid. I love all of them. I love that they are all existing at the same time.

Is it his mother’s maiden name? Yes.

Is it his childhood nickname? Also Yes.

Is it his last name and you have fun ideas his first name? Good on you that’s such a brilliant take.

Is it a new name he chose for himself after he broke off the contact to his family? Absolutely, you are correct.

Is it an unusual first name? You’re so right bestie, that’s exactly what it is.

Is he a descendant of royalty and made an anagram of the first letters of his numerous names and titles? He 100% did that.
