I need to write about Arthur having shitty taste in men so bad omg

Everyone hates his boyfriends. Nobody can understand why he keeps dating losers or people who don’t treat him right. Mal is in a constant state of despair over it. I just know in my heart of hearts that whenever he introduces someone everyone internally braces for battle. Lots of gritted teeth and fists being clenched under the table. He just can’t seem to pick a good one. They are all obnoxious and unbearable and keep getting worse?! Eames cannot understand why he’s being upstaged by what clearly is the bottom of the barrel. Whenever Arthur breaks up with someone or gets broken up with everyone is too relieved to even say I told you so.

I think I mostly blame this interaction for the brainrot tbh

Day 18 of Inception 30 Day Challenge

18. During a job, what’s everyone’s caffeinated beverage of choice? 

Eames: drinks coffee only for the caffeine, half his cup is milk because he can’t stand the taste, prefers tea and making sure he gets enough sleep

Ariadne: her favourites are cappuccino and chocolate mocha. She likes rich flavours and enjoys dipping biscuits or a piece of chocolate into her coffee. It’s as much about the ritual of making and enjoying coffee as it is about the caffeine.

Saito: espresso (very chic and efficient, just fits his vibe)

Arthur: coffee so strong it’s practically undrinkable, looks and tastes like tar. Absolutely no regard for flavour. Drinks it in bucketloads during jobs and not at all when he’s not working.

Yusuf: bit of a coffee snob, can taste differences in how the coffee was prepared, will drink anything but complains about the quality of the beans

Day 17 of Inception 30 Day Challenge

17. What would your favorite character’s social media handle be? 

Social Media doesn’t really go well with their jobs so I don’t think any of them would have a personal account except maybe Ariadne.

Hers is probably a very artsy Instagram account with photos of her sketches and uni projects and aesthetic shots of her coffee at the local cafe as well as random streets, buildings and artworks (especially street art). It’s called sth like aris_little_artworld or study.with.ari.

Arthur has a Reddit account which he would name arthuronpoint if he could but instead it has a generic handle. Sometimes when he’s stressed, he uses it to get into fights over people’s stupid takes on random topics.

16. Inception Day! Tell us about your first experience with the movie or first experience with the fandom!

My first experience with the fandom was seeing this post in October 2024. I watched the movie a few years after it came out but I hadn’t seen it in ages and yet I immediately went “that take is so valid, I should rewatch the movie” and then immediately did just that.

Activated like a yaoi sleeper agent.

I think Ariadne enjoys surrealist art the most, especially those artists whose works have either a dreamlike or a nightmarish quality to them.

Day 14 of Inception 30 Day Challenge

14. A pre-canon headcanon. 

Arthur joined the military very young with the intention of financing his education and the possibility of rejoining after college in order to qualify for student loan forgiveness. Education is very important to him and he always dreamed of pursuing higher education but there was just no way he could afford it otherwise. Scholarships were pretty much out of the question because his grades weren’t good enough since he was already working at lot during high school. While in service he got assigned to a top secret dreamshare project and then one thing lead to another and he became a highly accomplished criminal instead of a college student. Sometimes he’s still bitter about it. Especially because Cobb is from an academic background and can be insufferable about it.

A pre-canon headcanon.

Not my headcanon originally, but I absolutely believe that Arthur is protecting Cobb as a promise to Mal before she died.

ARIADNE What was she like in real life? ARTHUR (quiet) She was lovely.

It just hits me every time. Between that, Mal knowing Arthur's artistic taste and Cobb asking Arthur to send his regards to whoever Arthur's visiting in the States (presumably Arthur's family, which suggests he's met them) - I think there's a deep relationship with the Cobbs as a unit than just "guy we work with".

But nevertheless, Cobb's still "Cobb" and not "Dom" to Arthur. They have a comfortable rapport (Arthur getting him back on track after Cobb starts talking about intestinal worms, Cobb joking about him getting shot in the leg) and work well together. But at the same time, after Saito is shot, the way Cobb turns on Arthur and immediately blames him seems really... coworker-y, rather than between two friends working to get Cobb back to his family. Which has always struck me as really weird, the way Cobb immediately cracks that relationship with Arthur apart.

Meanwhile, Arthur only starts getting emotional and personal once the Limbo thing comes up, then immediately brings up Cobb's time there and Mal:

ARTHUR ...anyone sharing the dream who's been trapped [in Limbo] before. Which, in our case, is just you.

ARTHUR "Done it before." What, with Mal? Because that worked so good?

But I don't think Mal & Arthur were ever romantic, because Cobb would be way way weirder about Arthur if it was. Hell, I'd even accept it as evidence towards Arthur being gay, because I think Cobb's in a place where he'd be extremely weird about a man who is attracted to women having had a close emotional relationship with his wife (again, she knows what the inside of his mind looks like!), even if that relationship was entirely platonic. So why else would it be safe for Arthur to say she was "lovely"? Plus Mal brings up Arthur's taste in art and interior design to Cobb twice. It does make the Ariadne kiss weirder, but we're already used to explaining that one away...

Bonus: due to this level of familiarity with the Cobbs, Arthur is absolutely on "Uncle Arthur" terms with Philippa and James.

Inception Poster Design because 2 years ago I did movie poster redesigns for one of my illustration classes.

Inception is literally my favorite movie of all time, so I think I captured it well while also leaving a new fun concept for the poster.

13. What other movie would you recommend to a fellow Inception fan?  

I‘d recommend The Old Guard (just the first one).

It‘s obviously not as cinematic or as complex as Inception but if you enjoyed the aspect of a team with different personalities and skillsets working together you might like it.

(it also has badass women in leadership positions and a canon gay couple)

Day 12 of Inception 30 Day Challenge

12. What style of dance does each character prefer? 

Ariadne is a metalhead. She likes headbanging and is one those tiny fierce women in moshpits that you worry about because they are completely fearless and are in the thick of it with people twice their size.

Arthur and Mal like ballroom dances. They are an unstoppable force. Dom tried to keep up with them but he’s only allowed to cut in every once in a while because Mal loves him.

Saito can do practically any dance that has ever been danced at a formal event. He’s really good at leading and making even inexperienced partners have fun and feel good about themselves.

Eames is not much of a dancer. He’s perfectly capable in dreams but he’s a little stiff irl. He likes dancing with Arthur and getting a little handsy but it’s not something he’d go out of his way to do otherwise.

Yusuf does swing and is insanely good at it. It’s his hidden talent. For someone who’s not usually high energy he really lets loose when he’s dancing.

Robert is one of those stressed out businessmen who go crazy to techno. When he goes out on a Friday Night, he doesn’t come home until noon the next day.

Day 12 of Inception 30 Day Challenge 2026

What style of dance does each character prefer? 

Saito → waltz

Cobb → total clutz so he prefers not dancing, but he couldn't always get out of it because Mal wouldn't let him

Arthur → 1. Doesn't dance 2. Dances sensually at the club after a few drinks (lots of grinding and swaying) and 3. Is actually very good at all kinds of dances

Eames → Samba and other Latin dances

Yusuf → awkward dance moves

Ariadne → dance is a whole body experience. She'll be at the club or a rave at 5 am jumping up and down and yelling at the top of her lungs

Robert → he's proficient in ballroom dances because he had to, but prefers simply swaying slightly with a drink in his hand
