ram was a lot of things, but maybe what no one realised he was, was that he was shy. ram was extremely shy, especially around women. it wasn't just the respect and dignity inside him, they also made him very nervous.
because ram regarded them as unbelievably powerful, and the power and position women held in ram's eyes made him very shy around them.
especially more so around his new wife.
you thought that your husband was just being mindful and respectful to your boundaries, you didn't realise being in your presence just made him that way. he got incredibly nervous around you, he didn't even understand how it was possible.
but that doesn't mean ram wouldn't take his time out to talk to you; he did. although the conversations were very short owing to his shyness and your new relationship, he always looked forward to them the most.
since he was a shy man, a lot of his acts towards you were very private, some of them even you didn't know about. you started getting the hang of it though, and you smile to yourself every time you recognise any efforts of his.
he wakes up before you- to train the other warriors for freedom. when he does, he spends the first few minutes of his day admiring your sleeping form, pushing your locks out of your face softly as a smile dances on his lips. he presses a gentle kiss to your forehead and covers you better with the blanket, caressing your cheek before he leaves.
he puts out a saree that he thinks would look good on you for the day, sometimes also selecting the bangles and accessories to along with it. ram doesn't expect you to wear them, but you can't bring yourself to wear anything else. his face glows just a little more when he sees you in that saree.
he likes to buy all the necessary groceries before you even tell him you've run out; you never had to ask at all. it makes you smile whenever you look at all the groceries: he just knows.
ram also tends to watch you a lot when you're getting ready if he's miraculously at home that day. he walks by you getting ready and stops, his eyes trailing over you as you apply your bindi and kajal, combing through your hair.
it took him some long time before he allowed himself to actually come inside and admire you, making you smile wider.
his nervousness around you slowly started to go down, but the underlying respect and adoration for you never changed, his eyes still looking at your feet first before they lift up to your face. even after the entire world knew you belong to him. the dignity this man possesses overwhelms you a lot of times, but you love him for it
his soft eyes shining with love and respect always look for your comfort and ease first, before he speaks. it stayed that way for the first two years of your marriage, before he allowed himself to see you more intimately.
and you didn't mind waiting, not one bit. not when your husband was ram.
