I've noticed I have a particular interest in very well done, more adult-oriented takes on my favorite franchises growing up. I'm currently reading Infested - by @/flightyalrighty , and Heartache of Chaos - by @/gorjee-art , and they both are similar in that they're infection aus...or, yknow, aus in which some force takes over the minds and bodies of the characters involved. For lack of a better term. But, instead of sucking all the whimsy out of the source material, they retain that same feeling of something magical/adventurous, but it's more mature and well rounded. Does that make sense? Also, I'm not mentioning them directly but I'll put em in the tags below just as a soft nudge in their direction, I urge anyone following me to read their comics if you're interested in these macabre concepts represented by sonic/mlp/etc.

By the time he was twelve, Jason Peter Todd knew deep down that he was meant to be alone. Knowing that he was meant to be alone, however, did not mean that there weren’t nights where he really wished that he had someone (anyone) to rely on.
As Jason clung to the brick wall clutching at the stab wound on his abdomen, he reflected that tonight was one of those nights.
Or, Street kid Jason suffers a stab wound. Luckily, bat themed vigilantes arrive to help.
This is the disgusting, blame shifting response of a man who created a film in which the female lead's breasts and navel get more screentime than her face. A movie where a woman gets sexually assaulted in the dark by the "Hero". And then, when she's visibly traumatised and in need of help, she gets told that she can't report it to the police because her being seen as defiled would negatively affect her father's political career. This is a movie where the "hero" essentially says that his love language is molestation. This is a movie where the victim eventually falls in love with the assailant, in a disgusting reprisal of the "marry your rapist/assailant in order to restore your dignity" trope, because Indians think that the one who got assaulted is the one who is dirty and worthless.
Not the one who committed the crime.
I've been told by people that there's no greater proof of bad karma carrying on into a new life, than being born as an Indian woman. On most days, I disregard that statement. On other days, I wonder what I did to deserve to be punished.
This might seem to be an overreaction to a movie, but it's not about the movie.
It's about the fact that the director made the movie the way that he did, and was enabled, empowered and secure enough to do so.
It's about the fact that the lead actor, who holds all the power in this project, did nothing to protect the dignity of his co actor and continued to sing praises about the director throughout.
It's about the fact that this movie was made by a director and actor and production team of men, who all chose to hire someone accused of raping a child - a case that is currently sub judice - as the choreographer, and proudly claim that this person is a wonderful human being.
It's about the fact that the actress was forced to promote this movie under the threat of contractual obligation, despite the fact that she wanted to step away due to the offensive and degrading nature of the final cut of the movie.
It's about the fact that the CBFC -which usually demands that consensual on screen kisses be removed- deemed these scenes unproblematic, and the director and lead actor said it was a "family entertainer," asking people to bring their children to the theatre.
This is about the fact that when the sexual assault was playing out on screen, men in the audience were cheering.
This is an RRR/Rambheem blog, and this post is not directly related to that movie. However, there's a chance, however miniscule, that the small contribution I make to this fandom through my gifs and posts and writing, might lead someone to further explore Ram Charan's filmography. So I had to say something.
so i'm cleaning out some of the wip-snips i've written that i don't see myself completing. y'all have four options: ignore this, write it yourself, make up fun hcs or bully me into writing it (no guarantees).
this is my journalist!ram, modern rambheem au:
another trip to the town, another trip wasted.
bheem hops down from the cart with the rest of the group, and hesitates. lacchu stops when he realizes bheem hasn't moved. jangu comes over and claps him on the shoulder.
"it's okay, bheem," he says. "we will try again." he nods mutely and trudges after them.
a lot of their tribe work in town, and every day they leave in the morning and return just after sunset. bheem and a few of the others accompanied them today, in the hopes of being able to speak to the panchayat about the deforestation happening in and around where they live. they've been hearing rumours of a company taking over the land and building apartments or a shopping complex or something. but what they were met with were looks of contempt and disdain. the leaders spoke to them like they were dirt. so many others in town sympathized with them and offered to house them if they needed to leave the forests, but bheem wanted to scream at them, if you want to help, then help us fight!
peddayya could tell he was close to losing his temper, so he ushered the younger men out while he spoke to the leaders alone. bheem fumed outside while lacchu and jangu tried to calm him down. when peddayya returned, he looked rather upset, but refused to tell them what was said, only that their request was turned down.
he's exhausted from all the self-control he had to exert that day. bheem won't admit it to anyone, but each day, his resolve is getting beaten down more. he's worried that one day he'll wake up and not care about this place anymore.
there's a flurry of activity when they approach the little village. at first, bheem is alarmed—is someone sick? but then he notices the excitement.
a little hand catches his. bheem glances down to see malli pulling him along. he tugs her back and lifts her into the air, then settles her in his arms.
"annayya," she whines, pushing at his shoulder. "come on, savithri amma is calling for you!"
"what's going on, malli?" he asks, looking around. "what's with all the commotion?"
"there's a strange man here," malli tells him. "he came to see us all, i think. but annayya!"
"what?"
she lowers her voice, cupping her hand around her mouth and leaning in. "he's very beautiful." she then covers her face with her hands, burying her head in his neck, shy. he feels much of his anger and frustration melt away at this, and he laughs out loud, throwing his head back.
"really?" he bounces her in his arms a couple times to tease her. "shall i ask him to come see your mother to arrange your marriage?" she only continues whining, still hiding her face. he chuckles to himself and continues down the path. if savithri amma has asked for him, he must go.
the others in the village really are thrumming with energy—the children run around, mostly into and around savithri amma's house; the younger men and women gather in groups giggling and gossiping amongst themselves; the elders are in deep, grave-looking discussions that bheem knows probably aren't all that serious. who is this strange man come to see them? and why? how is someone making such waves in a matter of hours? is he that beautiful?
even though he was laughing about it with malli, he can't deny he's apprehensive about this sudden appearance. considering the whole issue with that company encroaching on their land, there's the real possibility this man was sent by them. perhaps to convince them to move. this thought makes him frown, and by the time he's at savithri amma's place, he's fully convinced he can't trust him.
once they enter, he's distracted by malli wriggling out of his arms and hiding behind him, her small hands clutching his dhothi tightly. as he glances down at her, she peers around him across the room. bheem looks up, and then sees him.
Since this is strictly an RRR/Rambheem blog, please enjoy this random assortment of gifs from RRR that I have chosen for no particular reason. Rest assured, there is exactly zero chance that I am using these gifs as a way to express my feelings and opinions about a newly released movie and the choices of a certain actor. This is because I lack the requisite ability to parse the implications of visual imagery, while also being afflicted with a complete inability to read screenplays.
I am certain that I'm the only person in existence who has such deficiencies.
