Welcome to the New Indaba Music

There are three important things you need to know:

1) In addition to networking and production (we haven’t taken anything away!) you can now sell your music direct to fans through your customized store, distribute through iTunes, take video lessons, buy sheet music, and much more.

2) The site has a new layout and organization to accommodate the expansion. The main areas of the platform are now: Community, Produce, Sell, and Learn – with a centralized Dashboard to manage your work across these areas.

3) We’re working with some amazing companies, (from Apple to Sweetwater to Connect by Hertz) and have several more partner applications coming in the next few months. This is just the beginning.

Your new Indaba profile is more interactive than ever. With a sleek new look, you’ll find it easier to showcase yourself to the Indaba community and find other musicians who share your interests. Our new sharing tools will help you promote your music across other social networks by allowing you and your friends to embed your music almost anywhere.

Search

This isn’t your average search – this is what we’ve lovingly dubbed “Fancy Search”.  We’ve partnered up with some high class search outfits to bring you the most comprehensive set of outcomes and suggestions you could ask for.

Chat

Communicating with other musicians has never been easier. Our integrated chat system allows you to keep up with your contacts and collaborators in real-time. You can even host multi-person chats directly in your open chat windows.

Groups

The new groups section lets you find musicians with similar interests. We’ve worked hard on a brand new interface that is easy to navigate with new ways to search and browse all our groups. You’ll even have the ability to browse groups near where you live.

Contests

We’ve been able to bring you tons of great contests and opportunities over the years, and with a new design, contests are more engaging and easy to share with all your friends and fans. Attach your submissions directly from your Media Library and participate in the discussion on our new real-time discussion board.

Produce

Providing you with the best platform for making music online is very important to us, so we’ve introduced a number of exciting upgrades and features to make your creative and collaborative experiences easy and seamless. With improved sessions and accessible Mantis DAW integration, get started!

Sessions

With the addition of Media Library and chat features, as well as a brand new design to the session interface, sharing audio, communicating, and keeping organized within a session will be an easier, more intuitive experience. Set “primary tracks” to keep your sessions moving forward, and keep everyone on the same page. Access our growing collection of over 10,000 royalty-free clips when you need just the right sound.

Sell

One of the biggest additions to the new Indaba Music is the ability to turn your music love into a music business. Whether you create music on or off IndabaMusic.com, why not sell your tunes? Distribute directly to iTunes or make create a customized, embeddable sales widget.

To access your sales widget and iTunes distro, sign up for a premium account. Pro members can submit up to 15 tracks annually to iTunes with no charge, while Platinum members can submit up to 50 tracks!

Music Sales

With just a few clicks of your mouse, you’ll be able to make your music available for sale through your own personalized online store, and through Apple’s iTunes store.  Don’t worry, you’ll get to keep 100% of the royalties!

Royalty Splits

Want to give credit where credit is due? Indaba Music has an innovative royalty split system in place. If you’ve worked on a song with other collaborators in a session, simply set the royalty split percentages for the song. Any sales of the song through Indaba will be automatically placed in your account.

Sales Tracking.

As your sales grow, understanding who is buying your music is vital. Compile your music and either make a sales widget with our easy design functionality or send your tracks to iTunes. Track your sales on a dedicated page that makes  your sales process intuitive.

Learn

Indaba Music isn’t just a place to produce music, it’s also a place to learn and become a better musician. While our thriving community can help you grow as a musician, we wanted to offer more. Now there’s over 100,000 titles of sheet music, video lessons, and tablature here to help you develop your skills and expand your musical knowledge.

Pro members receive a 15% discount and Platinum members receive a 30% discount on all purchases of sheet music, video lessons and tabs.

Ever wonder the exact chords to that Led Zeppelin tune? Need definitive fingerings for that Brahms sonata? Well, we’ve partnered with industry leaders Alfred Music Publishing and Hal Leonard Corporation to bring you a comprehensive sheet music library.

Artists In Residence

With your new Media Library, you will be able to manage all types of media and collaborative projects from one, centralized page. Click on each file to review stats like song plays, comments and ratings. Add file data to make your music easier for collaborators and fans to find your music.

Light-Speed Audio Processing On Indaba

We have some exciting news for all Indaba Music Members. Buckle up because we’re introducing – the Media Man.

Media Man works behind the scenes. He is an invisible audio processer who enables audio processing times to become 8 times faster than they used to be. Other good news are that you can upload music in pretty much any file format onto either your profile page or an opportunity. Remember how the little uploading icon kept spinning for minutes while you were uploading a track? Those times are over. Just have a look at these amazing stats:

The average mp3 now takes less than 8 seconds to process.

wav takes 10 seconds.

aiff takes 10 seconds.

And these are the file formats you can now upload on Indaba Music:

.wav (any bitrate, any sample rate, channel count, etc. no limitations anymore)

.mp3 (vbr, cbr, any bitrate, etc. no limitations anymore)

.aiff, .aif, .aiffc

.au / .snd

.flac

.mpg

.ogg

New Listening Feature!

Listening Party, the beta feature that we’ve been testing for the last several weeks, has proven to be a fun and often addictive way to hang out and chat with other musicians, while providing meaningful feedback and props to your fellow community members. After much positive feedback, we’ve incorporated this experience into Indaba Opportunities in a more central way. Now, when you arrive at the Opportunity page, you’ll automatically land on the Listen & Vote tab, where you can chat with other members currently online while everyone is listening to the same track AT THE SAME TIME!

Below this picture is a quick rundown of how it works…

Members Only The new listening party feature is only available for logged in musician members and is meant for meaningful discussion amongst musicians, not just fan comments. It is a way for you to hang out with other musicians, talk about the music being created on Indaba, and vote for your favorite submissions (or skip them!).

Lottery Every few minutes, there is a new lottery. When the lottery starts, you can throw your submission (or any submission in that opportunity that you have voted for) into the hat to be played next. The next song is chosen at random from all those submitted. If no one enters a particular lottery, a random track from the opportunity will play.

Skip If something comes on that you can’t stand to listen to you can click the “Skip” button. If the majority of people currently listening agree with you and also press the “Skip” the next song in the queue will begin to play.
