Here I am with a new song analysis in “Lyrical Love”! Today’s subject is a song by the visual superband Hollowgram, precisely Indecencia, third track of their third mini-album Wills, come out on 27th July 2016. The song is really different and unusual for their genre, at least for the sound, seducing and exotic, where the subject seems to be a common one, but not so much, especially for how it is dealt.
A biting guitar kicks off the song, in an exotic and really peculiar theme; Ryo’s voice is ethereal and seducing, accompaining a fascinating and rhythmical melody, highly exalted by the guitar; in general the song is sensual and enigmatic, well executed by each part, an unique work for its genre.
Asobi wa owari yo kuneridasu Distract
Tatoetara yuka ni tarashinagara
Karameru de dekita gurasu kande
Tsugi no oaite wa yurugimi implantation
Kazoetara hifu ni kizaminagara.
Wari to sugu ni kizuku no yo ne anata no ai ga mukanai to ka.
Asobi wa owari yo kuneridasu Distract
Tsugutsugi to yuka ni tarashinagara
Tsume wo kande yarisugoshite anata ni ai wa mukanai no ne.
Kusuriyubi de noseta aka doresu no suso ga yurameku
Tamesu tabi ni izanau kami no kou ga hai ga ochiru ma ni mune wo yaku.
Asonde hoshii no wagamama na Spoiled brat
Kuroku nureteiru matsuge tojite
Jihibukai kimi ni amaenagara hiritsuki mo kuse mo namemawashite
Yumi wo hiku yubi wo odoraseteiru
Kodoku wo shiru usagi dakara anata no ai de umetai no ne.
Kusuriyubi de tometa aka shiitsu no nami ga yurameku
Toiki dake no yoru ni owari ga kuru yume ga ochiru asa ni hi ga tooru.
The end of pleasure, basking back and forth, distract
Compared to while is falling on the floor
While it crumbles in the caramel, now like glass.
The next mate feels shaken, an implantation
Counted while I was carving it in the skin. (I)
You notice relatively that your love doesn’t come back to you.
The end of pleasure, basking back and forth, distract
Falling on the floor one after another
Biting my nails and, leaving it behind, your love doesn’t go towards you. (II)
The hem of the red dress sways, staying in the fingers
Each time I try, the smell of the hair seduces me, while the chest burns, with its ashes falling. (III)
I want that you have fun, selfish spoiled brat
While you close your eyelashes, getting wet
You, compassionate and lacking of self-reliance, while you sting and lick the fold, tasting it.
With the fingers dancing, forming an arch
Like a rabbit which knows the loneliness, I will fill you of love.
Waves of red sheets stopped to sway on the fingers.
The end arrives, in a sobbing night, a dream
Which falls and the sun goes towards the morning. (IV)
Written by the singer Ryo, the song is really enigmatic, whose text is filled by strong metaphores and symbols, making its comprehension quite hard (I had some trouble in translating it properly without going far from the true meaning, so if there’s something you want to say about it, you can write me without any problem). We can start this analysis saying that the song is released in the mini-album Wills, whose concept is really atmospheric and filled by intrigued tones, like any release by them. All the songs relate to the concept of “will”, which moves any choice during the life and specifically this song deals with the theme of indecency in love, described in an intimate moment between two people. The core of the text is why it is like that and the answer can be interpretated in many ways, according to the text; it might be the absence of true love between them, the finite nature of the moment itself or the fact that the other person is not how the protagonist thought, but at the end there’s not a certain answer, so you can choose to interpretate it the way you want. And now... let’s analyze the song!
I) The text starts with an image which will recur throughout all of it; the end of a moment of pleasure, where he is basking back and forth, distracted by his own feelings, struggling between his past and his present (Asobi wa owari yo kuneridasu Distract, note the final word written in English, surely for underlining the concept contained in it); compared to when he fell in the floor, crumbling in the caramel, now become like glass (Tatoetara yuka ni tarashinagara/Karameru de dekita gurasu kande, the caramel is a symbol of sweetness, while the glass can be seen both as synonym of coldness and a crystallization of the moment itself, for making it eternal); but the loved one seems to have a promiscuous attitude, as her next partner is shaken, and the protagonist sees him as an implantation, a thing that he puts on himself, carved in his skin, like an unerasable wound (Tsugi no oaite wa yurugimi implantation/Kazoetara hifu ni kizaminagara).
II) The protagonist says to his loved one that she has to notice that her love doesn’t come back to her because of her attitude (Wari to sugu ni kizuku no yo ne anata no ai ga mukanai to ka), so when the pleasure ends, he stays biting his nails, but her love won’t be requited, even if she tries to get past on that (Tsugutsugi to yuka ni tarashinagara/Tsume wo kande yarisugoshite anata ni ai wa mukanai no ne).
III) He relives the feeling of his fingers touching the hem of her red dress (Kusuriyubi de noseta aka doresu no suso ga yurameku) and each time he feels that, the smell of her hair seduces him, making his chest burning, while the ashes fall down (Tamesu tabi ni izanau kami no kou ga hai ga ochiru ma ni mune wo yaku).
IV) The protagonist says to her that he wants that she has fun, defining her a selfish spoiled brat (Asonde hoshii no wagamama na Spoiled brat), while she closes her own eyelashes, which got wet (Kuroku nureteiru matsuge tojite); she, compassionate but lacking of self-reliance, tastes his own partner with the fold of her dress (Jihibukai kimi ni amaenagara hiritsuki mo kuse mo namemawashite) and her fingers dance forming an arch (Yumi wo hiku yubi wo odoraseteiru, possible reference to the female sex) and meanwhile he gives her his love, like a rabbit which knows the loneliness (Kodoku wo shiru usagi dakara anata no ai de umetai no ne, the rabbit is symbol of fertility and seeing him coupled with loneliness is a strong contrast). But nothing can avoid the arrival of the end, happened in a sobbing night, like a dream which falls, leaving the spot to the sun and the morning, the beginning of a new day (Kusuriyubi de tometa aka shiitsu no nami ga yurameku/Toiki dake no yoru ni owari ga kuru yume ga ochiru asa ni hi ga tooru).
An intimate moment between two people which shows the true nature of one of them, in a promiscuous and lustful attitude; with strong symbols and enigmatic metaphores, Hollowgram combines a seducing atmosphere to a sweetsour truth about love affairs, where love is not expected, unfortunately.
That’s all folks! See you tomorrow for a new review in “Let’s Listen To”!
