I’m not a professional writer. I’m not a very experienced beer connoisseur that knows hints of oak and hops with a backwash of citrus and caramel nugget blends. I find things I think I may like and I get it. Sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised others not so pleasant.
I picked up Girls Made of Snow and Glass at the library and I almost didn’t want to finish it after the first three chapters. The author bounces between the two main characters Lynet and Mina aka Snow White and her Stepmother. The feminist take on the classic fairytale is well thought out with scenes that took me back to Game of Thrones
It’s not a bad thing either. There are elements of the classic story that are included with the retelling of such a popular fairytale that also includes new characters, magic, and appreciation for the family unit. I would recommend it.
Now for the beer. Austin Amber is a medium to dark ale with strong but a sweet aftertaste upon sipping. The Independence Brewing Company sent this to a hole in the wall convenience store that made me very impressed there was even a craft beer section. But I do live in a tourist town so.... it’s a 6.0% alcohol content and boldly has “Independent Thinkers and Drinkers”. I liked it and I’ll get it again, it went well with my leftover steamed broccoli, butternut squash and beans with a healthy serving of melted cheese.
