Will PM Modi Attend Khamenei’s Funeral? Iran Sends Special Invitation Amid Shifting Middle East Dynamics
Iran has reportedly invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the state funeral ceremonies of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, scheduled between July 5 and July 9 across Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad. While New Delhi has not officially confirmed participation, the invitation has sparked diplomatic interest worldwide.
Khamenei, who remained at the center of Iranian politics for more than three decades, played a defining role in shaping Iran's domestic and foreign policies. His passing has triggered discussions about Iran's political transition and future leadership.
The invitation comes at a significant moment for India-Iran relations, with both countries maintaining strategic cooperation in energy security, trade, regional connectivity, and the Chabahar Port project. Analysts believe that if PM Modi attends, it could signal the importance New Delhi places on its relationship with Tehran during a period of regional change.
