सिटी पैलेस की स्थापना १६वीं शताब्दी में आरम्भ हुई। इसे स्थापित करने का विचार एक संत ने राजा उदयसिंह द्वितीय को दिया था। इस प्रकार यह परिसर ४०० वर्षों में बने भवनों का समूह है। यह एक भव्य परिसर है। इसे बनाने में २२ राजाओं का योगदान था। इस परिसर में प्रवेश के लिए टिकट लगता है। बादी पॉल से टिकट लेकर आप इस परिसर में प्रवेश कर सकते हैं। परिसर में प्रवेश करते ही आपको भव्य त्रिपोलिया गेट' दिखेगा। इसमें सात आर्क हैं। ये आर्क उन सात स्मवरणोत्सैवों का प्रतीक हैं जब राजा को सोने और चांदी से तौला गया था तथा उनके वजन के बराबर सोना-चांदी को गरीबों में बांट दिया गया था। इसके सामने की दीवार 'अगद' कहलाती है। यहां पर हाथियों की लड़ाई का खेल होता था। इस परिसर में एक जगदीश मंदिर भी है। इसी परिसर का एक भाग सिटी पैलेस संग्रहालय है। इसे अब सरकारी संग्रहालय घोषित कर दिया गया है। वर्तमान में शम्भूक निवास राजपरिवार का निवास स्थानन है। इससे आगे दक्षिण दिशा में 'फतह प्रकाश भ्‍ावन' तथा 'शिव निवास भवन' है। वर्तमान में दोनों को होटल में परिवर्तित कर दिया गया है। . .
