Legitimate Solo Travel Fears & How to Get Over Them?
Here’s a confession: “I would love to travel alone and sparkle my artist inside but I am afraid what if anything goes wrong?” Having similar fears? Welcome to the club! We are always afraid of something wrong that may happen but we fail to understand – this is what it is! Traveling would be nothing without a spark of adventure. Having said that, we must note that some fears are actually legitimate and might affect us if are not addressed in time. Let us find out some of these fears and let us get over them all together!
1. Is traveling even safe?
Do you have this fear in your mind? Fair enough. Looks like you are brainy and not impulsive enough to get caught up in horrifying situations. You should always think about your safety first! However, let’s push aside some of the rational fears in the safety context.
My dress will catch me in troubles – Fair enough, again. But maybe, you are over thinking it. Believe me or not, society is changing and so are the norms. Don’t think too much of it, however, you can always wear something decent while you are traveling via a local means of transport.
2. Are us females safe out there?
Female safety in the society is quite a touchy subject and we won’t get there right now. Instead, we will delve right into the solution part. With the right understanding of culture and surroundings, my answer would be yes. Also, you don’t need to tell people that you are traveling solo – why invite unnecessary troubles after all?
Pro tip: Carry a small knife and a pepper spray along with you in your handbag to be well armed. Also, be alert at all times while you travel.
3. What will others think of me?
What will others think? Really honey? To be honest, some are going to be jealous of your guts while others will pat you on your back for taking this thrilling step. This is again a rational fear that you need to get out of your system as quickly as you can. Try to convince your family why is it so important for you to travel solo and leave it. You don’t owe a single word of explanation to the rest of them. After all, none of their opinions matter even one percent.
4. Won’t I be Lonely?
To be brutally honest, yes you will be. But that’s the whole point anyway. You have got to learn how to find peace in your own company and talk to yourself for hours. Besides, there are tons of places, cultures, and art forms that are going to keep you fully occupied. Moreover, solo traveling can help you be more of yourself and care less about unimportant things in life. So to sum it up, NO you won’t be lonely and sad but trust me, you are going to enjoy every bit of that experience.
