I've been a bit busy as of late, modeling mainly, to film as much on the project as I would have liked. Today is one of my rare days off and I plan to do a bit of impromptu filming. I am going to take the DVX100B cameras to video tape a model salon session at my friend, Paul's, apartment to talk to Nat. Usually, I like to plan a bit more in advance for a salon session and I kind of feel bad for just springing it on Nat yesterday when I was over there yesterday trying to get Paul's printer to work. But I figure it would be nice to have a change of scenery, not all salons in the same place. That being said, the DVX100B cameras are kind of like tanks. I am trying to condense the cameras and the filming necessities all into one bag.
I acquired (okay, purchased) two Black Magic Pocket Cinema Cameras in late June which I took to Puerto Rico and Florida to record modeling tour footage of Erica Jay, Anna Catherine, Theresa Manchester and I on the road. I've found that the BMPCC are terrific to take on the road, however, the batteries run low quickly and I can only record about 45-50 minutes worth of footage at a time on a 95mb per second/64gb card. (At bout $90-$100 a pop, they are super expensive and it take about an hour to transfer footage from the card to my HD. I can buy a lot of unused Sony tapes off eBay for about $200/50 6 minute tapes, plus I almost always run two cameras at once to catch two different angles.) So for the model salons, where I keep the camera running for 45 minutes at a time and change tapes about 3 or 4 times a session, it is best to stick with the Panasonic DVX100B cameras.
