i’m so torn about the whole black friday gubbins, you know? on the one hand i know that as an independent maker of arts, i’m supposed to be grasping the opportunity with both hands and shouting at you all about savings, but on the other hand, as a person who has to wade through the same late-capitalist muck as everybody else on the daily, i don’t really want to be adding to that white noise.
but what i will say is this: i hope we can all agree that it’s more valuable to support small businesses and makers when we can, especially at this time of year, and to acknowledge that for so long as consumerism is a thing we live within, we can try to be mindful. so if you’re thinking of picking up a special thing or two this weekend, don’t forget the small businesses and starving artists (like me) for whom your one little order might really mean something. or! don’t buy anything at all and make some gifts yourself, which is always so special. so i guess this post is in lieu if the promos my helpful marketing newsletters tell me i’m meant to be sharing right now. buy some art from my shop if you want, or support a local business if you’d like, or make it yourself. that’s my unsolicited black friday advice?
