I was thinking last night about how deku seems to have, like, undeveloped as a character. Like develope negatively; not thats hes a bad character or that he's a bad guy, but that the mental progress he's made has been more harmful to himself than anything else.
Which, I mean, duhh. He's been forced into a situation where his selflessness has had actual reason to fester into major self destruction, with being hunted down and having to take care of most villains in the city due to recent issues in society. He kinda...has to do all of this.
And I mean you can see how it's affected him. He's obsessed with his goal. They even made that comparison to Stain on the second to last page of this week's update, obviously not on how their goals are aligning, but how their commitment has made them look the way they do. That's the point of the chapter's title, even; it's 'scars, blood and mud', right? Because when the public sees deku, they see a man covered in those things who while they know he's doing good, he certainly doesn't look like he is.
Only thing is now it's gonna start becoming a physical problem again, like how when he was first using his quirk, it would shatter his bones. Difference is he doesn't care anymore. He's pushed All Might away, and whether that was to keep him safe or to try and be completely independent, or both, that really wasn't a healthy decision. Its been made clear that AM is the only reason he's had any rest or self nourishment in the past month or two. And now he's pushing him away.
Like my friend and I were talking about how AM has, at least twice in the past 15 chapters, asked about if deku has eaten anything yet like that day or something, which instantly sends us readers a LOT of alarm bells. I can tell this is either gonna build up and then backfire on him, or its gonna lead to some amount of hurt/comfort. Or both. I hope it's both.
Anyways rant over. Can't wait for the rest of the shit to hit the fan >:)
right! and the thing is, Deku has always been the type to push his issues back.. he didnt want others to worry, and its a mindset he's had since before UA, throwing his own safety out the window because he was made to believe he doesnt matter. the war arc was a breaking point for that mentality to start spiraling though, and now with him on AFO's trail (or rather, AFO on his to mess with him), its just getting worse and worse. he's placing the burden on himself because he likely sees it as his duty as an OFA holder. that the cycle needs to be stopped before his own wellbeing can be regarded.
its not healthy in the slightest, and with the way society and heroes themselves are, not many are able to reach through to him. we see it with All Might this chapter - he feels so incredibly guilty, because as an adult in Izuku's life, someone who was supposed to guide and nurture him, he didn't have the chance to tell Izuku he can take a break. he can take a breather. that its alright to not be at his best, and that its alright to take care of yourself. Izuku is someone who means so much to All Might (and obviously vice versa), the reason he continued to live, and he's near powerless as he watches this child destroy himself to carry a burden he originally unknowingly set upon his shoulders.
and the other heroes, too, are becoming powerless, because not many can match up to AFO in terms of power. Deku may very well be their only hope, and while they try to lighten what they can... we've seen that Izuku wishes to take this on himself because AFO has already hurt people in front of him. he knows what AFO can do, and he's trying to distance himself and take all those worries with him.
he's a kid in a world thats pushing back, and if the secret of his quirk were to get out it could get even worse.
and with him running on fumes, now pushing back AM who did his best to make sure he was at least eating, Izuku's path can only be leading to a dead end. rushing to finish this and doing his best to save everyone over himself can only backfire in a horrible manner, and Izuku wont be the only target. we've seen how AFO wishes to mess with him - he's aiming to destroy him mentally, Izuku is only walking further into his trap.
