Hey everyone! (tagging thegrandeurofstories, jehanettealleyne, and malacoda-in-bruges so we can get this party started)

Let’s figure out who goes when and how to exchange stories for this month’s group. I found that doing things via group email worked really well last time, so that’s my suggestion. If you guys have other ideas, though, we could try those too. thegrandeurofstories started a private cell on celly, which could be a nice way to communicate as well if you guys have signed up for that. 

If the email thing sounds good, you can send me your email via tumblr and I’ll get a group message started. I’m really looking forward to doing this with y’all. It was very helpful and a lot of fun the last time around.

The Secret Behind Making Me Care About Your Characters

First of all, I’m not sure if any of you guys have heard of Chuck Wendig, but a lot of the time, he is the reason why I keep writing instead setting my laptop on fire. 

He’s an author of many books, including The Heartland Trilogy books and “The Kick-Ass Writer”. He runs a blog called terrible minds, where he uses a perfect mixture of wisdom and profanity to get his point across to in-need writers. I suggest you subscribe to the blog’s mailing list. 

Now that we’ve talked about that, I want to show you guys this post he made on the blog today. A lot of us, whether consciously or subconsciously, struggle with having likable characters. Our characters can be too cocky or too weak or too nothing (or too much of everything). We even tend to ruin our character’s personalities by trying to make them likable, when in reality, there is one component that we’re all missing, besides these generic character traits that we all try to stuff down our MC’s throat: their struggle. 

I’m not going to ramble here, because Chuck makes everything very clear (and, as usual, very entertaining) in the blog post. Go read it, tell me what you think, and then get to work!

What’s in a name?

It’s official. The Indigo Scribes are here. 

I don’t want this to be too long, so I’ll try to keep it short (though I do have a rambling problem). First of all, I just want to say thank you to anyone who visits this page and decides to join us. You are all fantabulous. 

We are called the Indigo Scribes. A scribe is, in essence, a writer. But what about the “Indigo” part? 

The indigo color represents intuition and perception. It provides “deep concentration during times of introspection and meditation”, and helps open the third eye. All in all, very powerful color. I wanted something to signify the new movement of writers like us, the ones who stick together and help each other, the new alliance if you will. 

You’ve probably heard of indigo children. They are the children of this generation that are more in touch with their true selves, the ones who are here to bring the non-indigos “closer to their true essence”. 

I believe that’s who we are. 

Since we are a new, young alliance, there are many indigo children among us who don’t even know it. There is a level of consciousness within us that needs to be awakened and cultivated, and together we can do that. All indigo children have their own way of having their voices heard, and writing is ours. 

Voila: the indigo scribes.
