(please tag as indigowolf) hi i have bpd and psychosis and i think i may also have factitious disorder. do you think factitious disorder is legit? i've been given a lot of flack for "faking a system" but i don't claim to be one, i get such bad delusions i often think i have illnesses and disorders that i don't really have. was it right for people to give me flack for this? and what can i do to avoid illness delusions in the future?

Hey anon,

First off, factitious disorders are where you purposefully fake a disorder, and it really doesn’t sound like that’s what you’re going through.

Thinking that you have something you don’t can be part of a disorder, though. It can either be part of a delusional disorder or a somatic component of a disorder. I can’t say if you have either one of these or which it is, but I can say that it sounds like you’re really struggling here and deserve help.

It sounds like one thing that could help you is reality checks. Basically, try to find someone you trust who you can ask whether what you’re feeling or thinking sounds logical and real. They can help you figure out if thinking is delusional or not.
