Summary:

Eight prisoners escaped from the prison and two of them were Arnold Pickering,and Thomas Moffat. Arnold Pickering was arrested in 1991, he was sentenced for life and had to serve minimum of 18 years behind prison for killing a man. He stabbed 53 years old Thomas Leigh who was blind and deaf to death because of the rumours that Thomas was a paedophile. Pickering is about 5ft 11in, of medium build and with blue eyes also, he has tattoos on his arms and chest. In 1991, he escaped through a gap in the roof of visiting area in Strangeways prison and was arrested after seven hours. Later on Pickering was allowed out  of HMP Kirkham in Lancashire in 2009 and he escaped again. He surrendered after 4 days, clearly Arnold has a history of escaping from prison. He has been risk assessed as suitable for temporary release on licence by the Ministry of Justice. This is the third time Arnold escaped from prsion and i don’t understand how the police can’t understand how he keeps escaping. 

Thomas Moffat another inmate from from Blackburn, Lancashire, who is serving an indeterminate sentence for a chain of robberies carried out in 2006. Both prisoners were supposed to come back but never returned. Moffatt committed six armed robberies and is armed with a nail gun. He was sentenced for 6 years and 344 days for public protection in 2006. Both prisoners have been risk assessed as suitable for temporary release on licence by the Ministry of Justice. He failed to come back to prsion after his day release and  was found few weeks earlier. I think the cops are being negligent because Arnold escaped from the prison three times and i don’t understand why would they still let him out of the prison. The cops should work harder and not let the repeat offender out of the prison.

Overall, the police in this case has been really careless because keeping in mind that these criminals are dangerous and repeat escapers, they shouldn't have let them out on the first place. Arnold escaped several times before this escape but still he was let out. Police should stop trusting the repeat offenders. I think these criminals should not be let out for visits or anything. To set an example for other prisoners and to punish the offender.
