The end of Individuality
I have been thinking that frankly, people find Philosophy really dry, so I am going to try in illustrate this with pictures as much as I can.
So, a common theme I keep seeing today online, on TV or in groups is this sort of “CONFORM OR DIE” mentality. If you do not agree with me then clearly you are meant to be my mortal nemesis. And equally mind numbing groups spouting the same general ideas to each other, so to speak patting each other on the back in a big circle. I don’t like this. We are looking at people like a bunch of robots. You know why I would never want a world where everyone agrees with me? Because it would be HELL. Don’t believe me? Lets do a thought experiment.
Imagine a world. A world where everyone likes the same shows, same colors, same foods, have the same opinions, likes doing the same job, doing the same sports and hobbies. Where everyone is virtually the same person. It would look like this.
Its almost painful to look at isn't it? But I assure you it is way worst. Imagine groundhog day, but instead each day everyone says and reacts the exact same while the days slip away. You don’t want to live in a world where we are all robot clones of each other.
And that is what is waiting for groups of people like everything the same. Now lets imagine a different. A world where there are people who like Spicy food, some who are more mild in taste and others who have a sweet tooth. A guy who makes models of plumbing because he is that interested in it, a girl who loves building robots and a person who genuinely enjoys doing mathematics. People who like blue, but also people who like green. People who love car trips and people who hate driving. Where some people solve a problem in one way, and then others use another way. You would get something like this.
Well look at that, it isn’t exactly perfect, or clear, but it is much easier on the eyes. Is it a picture of a forest? A surrealist depiction of the ocean? It could be either, or something different. Difference is like a fine seasoning on food, it adds flavor.
Intellectual diversity is a beautiful thing. Imagine if the cure to cancer, the perfect diet or water powered cars are in someones head. They could even be crazy in your opinion. Someone who believes the world is flat, the moon landing was faked, the world orbits the moon and that carrots are evil. But if they did not have that exact mind, they would not have come to that amazing discovery either. So the fact you berated them for having these beliefs means now that the world will forever be robbed of whatever they were going to create. Way to go. Some of the most common things were thought about or fixed by a weird person NOT LIKE YOU. The guy who thought that a lamp with multiple lights would direct traffic better than a person. Somebody who speculated about things in space that nobody had ever thought about before, and then later we found it. A person who thought that being able to see, hear and talk to a person on a watch was a possible thing.
You just cannot predict this, and this conspiracy of “They must either think like me or like my enemies.” is a very backwards way of thinking.
So I tip my hat to you creative folk, you dreamers, thinkers and philosophers of tomorrow. You who will see different perspectives on a matter, and think that all of them are completely fine.
