Desperate Times // Kai&Serena // closed for ineed-a-cigarette
Time had passed after the last time they had talked. Kai could still remember picking up her phone on the ground, with dead battery and no sight of the owner. She had told him she wouldn’t come back until he had won the elections. I don’t fuck losers, she had said, actually. The point was that he didn’t just want to fuck her. Serena was the first woman he felt he could share.. himself with. She knew him, he knew her... and he pushed too far, as usual. Never fall in love with a woman who sells herself. Was it true? Kai didn’t know. He just knew that now there was someone missing in his life, and... his purpose to get to the top got even stronger because of that. Winter started to get worried. There was a change in him, not too evident to the people that weren’t close to him, but clear to her. His eyes had got cold, he wouldn’t give any time to second guess, he was scarier than before. Winter wondered if he had started losing his mind. Well... that would be proven soon true, because Kai got suited up, speaking to his mirror. The audience loved him, the stage would be waiting for him soon... All he needed to do was... win those fucking elections.

Madison stood at the doorway looking at the girl wiping her tears. She had agreed to do that interview as a favor to some old friends, but she couldn’t help but feel some level of empathy towards her. She pulled some tissues and passed them to her. It would be a lie if Madison claimed she couldn’t relate to the girl’s spontaneous confession. “there are just these days that killing yourself seems like a good option.” She commented almost like a joke. Funny, how she could laugh the loudest at the things that were mostly true. “So, instead of hiding in the bathroom, how about we get some of that free coffee they offer at the lunch room and tell me the rest of the story. And before lying, there is always a story behind a pretty girl crying her eyes out in a bathroom.”

Serena took the tissues and wiped at the mascara streaks on her face before digging in her purse for her makeup bag – she needed to do a touch up because there was no way she was walking out of that bathroom looking as ridiculous as she felt. “Thanks.” She finished apply fresh makeup and turned to Madison. “Yeah, some days. Today’s one of them. I guess we just have to try to rise above it” She’d of course never give in to such a cowardly way out and she doubted the other girl would either – they were young and had way too much to live for. “You mean the coffee that is only free because it tastes like shit? Sure, let’s go do that.” Serena blushed slightly at the compliment from the other – she knew she was pretty but it was still nice to hear. “I promise I won’t lie. I’ll tell you all about what my dirtbag boss did in full detail if you’d like to hear about it.”

Jimmy looked at her. For a moment, was that sadness he heard in her voice? Couldn’t be. “Well you’re paying me to be here, or at least you’re supposed to. I gotta work, I gotta live. So I can’t leave neither.” He shrugged. He particularly enjoyed Maggie’s company- she was one of a kind. “Why couldn’t you leave? If you want to, you’re free to go.”

“you're not a real adult until you've cried in the bathroom at work.” (Madison to Serena// ineed-a-cigarette)

THINGS I'VE THOUGHT/SAID/HEARD WHILE AT WORK (PART TWO)Â
“ Well, then I guess I’ve been an adult since I got my first part-time job at sixteen.” She laughed as she wiped at her eyes. “I guess I’m an old veteran at this point.” Looking into the mirror she checked her makeup. “You weren’t supposed to see this you know.” Serena did feel pretty ridiculous being caught crying in the bathroom at work. At least Madison understood and shared her pain.
“Don’t you remember the rules of horror films Jill? You might see them but the then the poor girl will have to die a tragic death by a serial killer that just can’t appreciate beautiful women that celebrate their sexuality.” Madison turned to her friend and smirked. “Maybe we shouldn’t have picked the Saw movies after all. Too much gore too little nudity and after the third one the plot stopped making sense. We could watch something from Friday the 13th franchise. These movies at least give us girls in bikinis….that die too soon. I should know. I had auditioned for one of them but I wasn’t as brain dead as they hoped I would be.” She moved her laptop closer to her and started looking for an alternative. “ Now let me ask you a question. If you could sleep with any movie serial killer, who would it be?”

“It doesn’t stop me from wanting to see them…” Jill threw a few pieces of popcorn at the screen. “This is bullshit. If I don’t get to see some tits tonight then I’m going to start bugging you to show me yours.” The Saw movies were pretty much a joke to her – there was nothing but gore with no real interesting storyline and she preferred the classic slasher flicks. These movies – not even the original – would never be worthy of being classics. “Yeah these suck but it certainly wasn’t my idea to watch them.” She pointed out. “Like it wasn’t my idea to watch the Paranormal activity movies last time we hung out.” She didn’t care that Madison was an actress – she wasn’t famous for anything she cared about - she pretty much just treated the girl like everyone else. “Friday the 13th is good. Only if we are watching the originals and not the remakes.” She was adamant about not watching shitty remakes. “You in a horror movie? That’s something I’d have to see. You look too prissy to be covered in blood.” Of course, she was just picking on her friend. “That’s a tough question because most of them are male and I’m really not a huge fan of dicks.” She had to think about it. “I’d say you if you were ever in an iconic slasher flick as the killer but since that didn’t happen does Angela from the Sleepaway Camp movies count? She was really hot as a girl? What about you? Who would you sleep with?”
( 📼 : Brooke : @ineed-a-cigarette )
The new girl complained way more than anyone she’d ever met. Brooke could understand why she was bitter - camp wasn’t a place anyone would enjoy being against their will. She hadn't wanted to come at first either but she was glad she'd given in. So far the brunette was loving her summer job. It was a special place where she could just be herself and have fun - it was kind of magical and sadly this girl and some of the other counselors were ruining it for her. Brooke still didn’t want to hear Chanel's never-ending bitching and that was why she avoided her as much as she could. That day it had been impossible to ignore her as they were assigned to the same group of kids to look after. “You know it’s not the worst place to be.” The words were harsh but they were true. She could be in jail or so many other equally awful places. It was the most Brooke had spoken to her to the spoiled girl and already she felt it was too much. “No one’s forcing you to be here.” She had a choice. Be there and honor her parole or bail and get locked up. "What exactly did you do that landed you here?" There were rumors circulating but she didn’t pay much attention to gossip. All she knew was that this was community service for Chanel.Â

Serena lited her head kinda surprirsed by the the woman’s outburst. She had been taking breakfats in the Butchery for quite a while, but she had never seen Ivy exploding like that. On the contrary, she always seemed to her like a calm and level headed person. maybe that was why she kinda liked being there. Ivy was nice in a sincere way. And aparently now she was also angry in a sincere way. From what she knew, from what Ivy herself had told her, she was married to a woman she hated. Who said that same-sex marriages were any different than heterosexual marriages, Serena concluded. Yet, she couldn’t help but feel bad for Ivy at that moment. Serena too hated her life and many people in it, but at least she could see a way out at the end of the line. She had a plan and she was working towards it. Ivy really had no way out it seemed. She got a sip form her coffee looking at Ivy and then looked down at her plate. “Yeah, tell me about it.” She mumbled.

If there was one thing Ivy tried to never do it was act out at work. She tried never to act out anywhere but certainly not a business she'd sunk everything into. Today she just couldn't help it. After exchanging a few rather heated texts with her wife she just wanted to smash something. Somehow she refrained and tried to focus on where she was and who she was surrounded by - paying customers. It didn't stop her from letting out a few curse words that she couldn't seem to hold in and exclaiming her contempt over the situation to the woman in front of her. Serena was a regular. A cute regular  - although she doubted the beauty was into girls - and she'd exchanged more than a few conversations with her. She felt like she could actually talk to her and it was rare she felt that way with anyone these days.
"Sorry, you didn't need to see that." No one did. And yet many people had. "I just don't even know what I'm doing anymore. My whole life. My whole marriage with that ...bitch..." Calling the mother of her child that word was still hard for her but that's what Ally was. A bitch. A first class, grade A bitch. Unprofessional as it was she took a seat at the table across from Serena. "I just want to take my son and get as far away from her and this place as I can sometimes." It was an unrealistic want - her whole life was there and it would take more than just picking up and driving away. When she realized how much she'd been complaining she sighed. No one - not even someone she did talk to from time to time - wanted to deal with an unstable employee/owner during their breakfast.
