Roe was learning a lot about Ines.
She’s resourceful. At least that’s the nice way to phrase the fact that he ends up with a text from the woman, despite the fact he’s certain he’s never given her his cell phone number. He’s half certain Nurse Ellen who saw them talking might have passed it along, and he’s not sure if that explanation is reassuring or vexing.
Worse, yet is that Ines, it seems, is a stickler when it comes to promises—even ones that were given without any really weight to them when he was distracted with work responsibilities. He supposes he should have had the insight to be careful about what he said around a reporter. But his thoughtlessness has led to a seemingly innocent cue for Roe to buy her coffee snowballing into attending the Hallowe’en masquerade. When you get down to the specifics, he does suppose a yacht—even one ominously named Charon—does fall under the category of “location of your choice.” He just doesn’t approve of Ines’ choice, which he has made her more than aware of at this point.
“What are the chances that you’ll allow me to buy you that drink before this thing leaves port?”
