It's not always horrible; it really depends on the staff and what behavior is allowed from the customers. You can always quit if you don't like it. :(

I did not know those were the same language. I know people who apparently speak the same language and I didn't know it. At my school Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese were taught. Same at the school where I'm teaching now. I've never heard Mandarian called anything else at schools. I'm pretty sure my uni calls it that too as well as our state gov't forms. I was terrible at both languages, so I don't know anything anymore.

I guess Mandarin is only called differently in/around China, because Putonghua translated is “common language”, which probably won’t make sense to others. By same language you mean..mandarin? or you mean cantonese and mandarin

Oh that’s interesting! I really don’t know what to think about Universe because it’s just never on my dash and I almost never see anyone talk about it but then it has Ming-Na Wen in it so how bad can it be, really?

I was so pleased to have a Hawaiian on mainland television (I didn’t get into the show until friends convinced me after the first season) that I probably overlooked a lot of things. But I do think he character development was better and there’s a lot of story lines involving how much they should get involved in local politics and whether they massively screwed up the universe by interfering. Even the bad guys who essentially grow humans as cattle have some dimension. (And you get bonus Amanda Tapping, who gets great moments.)

I will warn you that if you do like it, you should take a pause between the fourth and fifth seasons and develop your own ending in your head before proceeding. The show got cancelled unexpectedly and the last season’s plotline is weak at best. They also expected the have two movies that didn’t happen.

That’s really helpful advice, I’ll make sure I keep that in mind when I watch it.  The bit about the local politics etc sounds very appealing to me, I always thought SG-1 would have been better if they’d had a prime directive or any consistent principles really, especially considering they interfere with the sovereignty of other planets every other episode.

Thinking back I can really see that. (I watched it as it aired when I was a kid.) I think (think; it's been a while) that SGA is better. SG1 is really repetitive, too. I did not like SGU and found it badly written, but I was sore over the end of SGA.

That’s good to hear!  It seems a bit better, at least they have four female lead characters which is more than SG1.  I probably will watch SGA eventually, seeing as it’s like the only space opera available on Netflix Australia.  But also because I love Jewel Staite and Amanda Tapping and Jason Momoa is also great and I think I’d like Elizabeth Weir a lot!

I live in Hawaii (a lot of Asians of differing backgrounds). Even with the sun here quite a few of the full-Asians I know are paler than I am, and I take after my Irish-English-Scottish mother. There's a wide variety of skin tones among Asians, even within ethnicities; I think the fanart looked okay.

that's what i was thinking too. asians definitely vary in skin tone so it didn't jump out as whitewashed at all to me

I don't care for Mike's Hard or Smirnoff. It has a weird aftertaste to me. Mixed drinks are *dangerous* and don't drink shots until you have a better hold of how much alcohol you can handle. If you like apple juice, cider is a good option. Choose a "crisp" flavor rather than a "dry" one and the alcohol isn't as obvious. It usually has the same alcohol content as a beer. If there's hard liquor, you could always nurse a White Russian (vodka + coffee liqueur + cream) or just drink iced Irish Cream.

Awwwwww thank you! Cider does sound good (I LOVE APPLE JUICE AND HOT CIDER) and I’ve heard Irish Cream is good (and because I’m part Irish I’ve always been interested in trying it). I’m adding this definately to my list. Thank youuuu!
