⚔️- A memory about war
War. Nothing ever escaped it, no matter how hard one would try. The hardest times were during it. Never getting a good rest, you’re always on guard, fear of getting ambushed while you slept; which happened more than one wanted to admit. An ambush happened that night. A night to never be forgotten. Woken by the sound of gunfire and the shouts of teammates in pain.
Sam had been quick to get to his feet and find a weapon, fighting off the enemy as best he could. Eyes darting around for his team, counting those alive and avoiding anyone who had fallen. Where was Isaac? He ran while shooting before spotting the other. Now he did not much care for the other, but in a time of war you barely think of silly hate towards another. Which is what happened when he ran for Isaac, using his own body as a shield.
The familiar burning feeling of a shot ran through his shoulder, it pierced his nerves like fire, it faded quickly with the adrenaline that ran through him. It was a long hour before they remaining of the team and the two finally fell back and escaped with their lives. Their Captain alive and a good portion of the team, only some wounded that could be treated.
Adrenaline pumping through them all had finally subsided, and that’s when the pain hit Sam like a truck. It burned and he could barely feel his right arm or even move it. The last he remembered was his captain and teammates surrounding him to try and help.
Who knew he would have lost his whole arm that night.
🐕-A memory of teamwork
You had to work together in order to get out alive. Coordinating with everyone like a squad, knowing how they all worked and vice versa. The smaller the squad got, the easier it was for everyone to communicate and figure out how the others worked. None ever let another back’s wide open, always watching it and keeping guard.
During long fights is when they worked their hardest to watch each other’s backs. No one was left open and it was never frowned upon when helping another. While war was a tough time, it was a better time when people knew how to work together. To know how to survive.
No one works that way anymore.
