Theft in the Face of Possible Temporal Recorrection 25-31 May
"What?" she asked blankly.
"The crystal shards," I repeated. "From that broken time gem in there. Prove it to me that you didn't take a handful of them."
"Take them? Why would I do that? We're on a mission here, Frank."
"So prove to me that you're on task and didn't take any."
Kink hesitated so I said, "You took some, didn't you?"
"Of course I took some," she replied. "You're stupid to not too. So you know how rare, how valuable, even one of the smaller shards are? Very. Very very. You want to help people, give them some of those shards. Not just in the money they could make with them, but also with the good they could do with them. People could really use these to help with great things."
"And how are you going to use the ones that you pilfered?"
"Pilfered, Frank? Really?"
"Stolen," I said. "Is that better? The shards that you stole?"
"You know what, Frank. This is wasting a lot of important time. We have a mission to do and standing around arguing isn't helping anyone. It's just going to get is caught again."
"Fine," I sighed because I knew on this last point at least she was right. We were in the middle of things. We could get found out at any second. We'd already had to talk our way out if a few tight scrapes, we couldn't afford any more. We had to stop all of this here and now. "Let's go take care of this. Let's shut this place and then you and I are going to have a little talk."
"Frank, if we succeed, this timeline will change. We might not have ever even been here. Everything you're complaining about might never have happened, so why don't you just worry about what we have to do to fix the timeline to one where we don't have to worry the time cops' oppression, ok?"
"Fine," I said. "Let's go fix the timeline."
