Did you know that 80% adults suffer from back pain once in their lifetime. While there are many factors that cause back pain, faulty mattress has been found to be one of the major reasons for back pain. This reminds me of a common question that my patients ask me. "What kind of mattress is good for back pain?" Another common question is "Which mattress is better- memory foam or coil mattress?" While it was a traditional belief that soft mattresses are good for back pain.. It's no more a good advice. Your mattress should be medium firm. 2 important functions of mattresses are: Alignment with spinal curvature Support to your back. While soft mattresses conform nicely with your spinal curvature it doesn't provide sufficient support to your back. Hard mattresses supports your back but doesn't align with the spinal curvature.
