Interesting place for a meeting.  I’d already had too much coffee today, so…  What’s this about?  I saw you lurking around my fundraiser. What are you doing some oppo research?  No, I like to think of myself as an informed voter and I wanted to see what a Carol Riley administration might look like.  What did you learn?  You have genuine concern for the county, with an unparalleled conviction rate. Your peers respect you, some of them fear you.  The men do.

I did some research on you, too. Army intelligence, time at the Pentagon, some private contracting. And you did the whole whistleblower thing before it was cool.  That’s some pretty thorough research.  It’s what I do.

Sheriff Hollister isn’t like the men you so clearly resent. His character is what serves him best in this job and now that you know my history you’ll know that I like an insurgent.  I don’t need your vote, Bishop. But after I win, I do hope I can earn your respect.

With everyone in the U.S. buzzing about the upcoming election and trying to research about all the candidates, I just want to give one reminder:

We should always be trying to improve upon the last best President. I know it's easy to just want someone better than Trump. It's easy to look past the flaws of past Presidents because he is so awful. We don't want to settle for "better than Trump" though! Think about how many people fit into that category who would not be good leaders. We want CONSTANT improvement. Obama was an amazing leader but we still should look at his presidency critically, find what was liked and disliked, and apply that to how we vote.

Early voting already started in several states. Vote! In person, by mail, dropping off your ballot, just do it! Don’t complain, vote! You want survivors to be heard, believed it? Report: Russian Election Trolling Becoming Subtler, Tougher To Detect

A cache of Instagram posts has yielded what researchers call a more up-to-date look at election interference operations. Much of it is familiar but now executed with more sophistication.

Sharing both links for sake of awareness and to encourage caution, to keep in mind that active efforts to interfere in elections are ongoing and none of us are completely impervious to it. They use tactics intended to divide, to deepen existing worries. Breathe. Verify sources before sharing content, especially if your gut reaction to what you see is to get riled up -- that should be an instant signal to step back and double check the information vs. quickly clicking reblog or share. Get involved with efforts to reduce voter suppression or volunteer in support of the issue that matters to you. Strengthen your media literacy muscles.

Google is being more helpful than my county’s website when it comes to figuring out who is on my ballot and what their stances are.

My old county allowed you to preview your ballot online so you could at the very least know ahead of time who your candidates were.
