Alas, poor infrastructure, alas poor bus
Yoo so a bridge collapsed (sort of) in the general area of the city I live in this morning. (support beams underneath failed, but still partially supported by cables.) Last I heard there were no fatalities and only minor injuries, which is pretty incredible because apparently that bridge is usually much busier than it was at the time. However, one of the few cars on the bridge at the time was one of our county public busses. Which makes the second major incident involving city busses since I’ve lived here, neither of which I was personally witness to. Poor bastards are becoming a running local meme. Hope they get good health insurance, including mental health.
@TedX Talk: Can Satellites Help Us Predict Infrastructure Collapses? This engineer explains how Bridges and other structures fall down relatively often, and every time it happens we wonder if we could have known earlier that there was a problem.
