For the first day of fall, here is Sylvia Plath bringing some fall vibes in argyle socks in the Newnham College garden in Cambridge, England, 1955-1956.
Even though I don’t know if that picture was actually taken in fall. ;)

Which would you say are the most 'wholesome' colls? Like for people who would like to do cute activities with friends, only drink on special occasions, maybe wuld like a stable bf etc... I ask cuz i really don't wanna feel like a loser or freak for preferring more chill pursuits; peer pressure makes me rly anxious ... thank you xx
At any college, you’re going to find people who are like-minded, so please don’t fear that you’re going to feel like an outsider. I’m of a sort of similar mindset to you and would say my college’s stereotypes don’t particularly match who I am as a person, but I’ve got some pretty close-knit friends and I’m comfortable where I am. And not once have I ever felt peer pressured into doing something. If you do feel peer pressured when you’re here, there are so many avenues of support you can take. So you can make any college feel like home! :)
Now to actually answer your question. I’d say the types of colleges that give me those vibes are the more introverted (but still friendly) ones. So I’d definitely put Selwyn first. Magdalene, Sidney and Newnham too maybe?? I’d say the colleges most well known for their sociability, that you may wish to avoid, are Downing, Jesus, and Caius.
A tour of my room/flat this year! I'm living in a part of Newnham called Grange Gardens, which is separate from the main site, and the extra walk is definitely worth it for a room this nice. Hopefully the first of many videos made in this room, but we'll have to see how things go.
Study spot for the evening!
£895,000. 4 br. Newnham, Hampshire.
Colleges with onsite accomadtion for all three years? I saw the answer to this before but i can't find it now - sorry x
I can’t find it either, anon, so you’re not alone! As far as I’m aware: Churchill, Clare, Downing, Fitz, Emma, Girton, Homerton, Jesus, Medwards, Newnham, Queens’, Trinity, John’s. At several of the above, both offsite and onsite are available for second + third year, so you can pick where you want to live!
Does newnham have a nice library? And also when you say newnham is one of the most expensive colleges, is that by a lot? Are there many bursaries etc. available?
Yes, Newnham has a lovely library! Apparently it’s a great place to work, and it’s big enough that you’ll pretty much always get a seat. It does close at 2am, but most people aren’t too bothered by that!
So HERE is the Tab’s (very rough) approximation of cost of living - it’s not entirely accurate (ie. they’ve way underestimated the rent for my college, and no one ever buys bottles of college wine unless they go to Sidney), but it does give you a rough idea of what the cost of living at different colleges is like. Newnham is notorious for being expensive, mainly because of the high rent, which you can’t really do anything about? Like if food is expensive, you can cook for yourself, but you can’t do much about rent, and as you can see from the chart, it’s got one of the highest rents by far.
Bursaries - I’m not sure how good the college specific bursaries are, although I’m sure they do exist. Newnham helpful experts? @miriamjoyblogs?
Prettiest colleges? Sorry that seems really terse but yeah xx
I think this is very dependent on you as a person! I’m a big fan of Newnham (the gardens are gorgeous), Pembroke, Downing and Christ’s!
